Avlis and Hala link goes public!!

Post by Orleron » Mon Sep 08, 2003 4:40 am

I am happy to announce that Avlis and Hala have a running link open to all! This is a great first step in forming the Confederation of Planes & Planets. Soon more worlds will follow in the linkup, but this one is historic. Before you do anything, download the hakpak for Hala. (Can we get a link to that here, pitched_black?) THEN, read this thread: viewtopic.php?p=139893#139893

Awesome! I'm going to check it out as soon as possible. Congrats :)

Download the four Hala hakpacks in one archive here:
http://www.spod.org/~alan/stuff/hala/All4HakPaks.rar

They are also available seperately. You can find this URL and the other things about Hala on the Hala homepage: http://hala.neonsun.org

Could we get a mass mailer or something to all board members with the password to the Hala server? (Or better yet, toss it in a readme with the files, although that's not as safe, obviously)

I take it the links between the two will work in a similar way to the one with Mythos? Also, do we know if there's any issues with items, or is Hala and Avlis completely compatible (as far as anyone can tell at least)?

Also, I noticed that the link elsewhere mentioning the portal is kinda geared to Elves. Are there plans for other portals to give other (non-Elf) characters an IC reason to make the trip (besides sight-seeing)?

Thanks

We ran into the hak brick wall last night. Go figure the Hala server was having issues! Any case, I'm pretty stoked about this. The RP possibilities already are amazing.

Thanks, y'all!

Mass mailing is coming as soon as I can get to it. Hakpaks should be gotten from Hala's site or the mirrors.

Like Mythos, Hala items will not be persistent on Avlis chests and vice versa AFAIK.

Is that issue going to be fixed at any point?

I know it's a bog load of work for all the new items but otherwise there's no point travelling from one to the other if the items you have from Avlis are going to disappear on a corpse/reset event in Hala and vice versa.

There are no plans at this time to fix that, no. If we were to put every item from every world we link to into our pallette, our mods would be hundreds of megabytes.

Until Pap figures out a way to truly store objects in a NWNX database and is able to spawn them in game from the database independently of the pallette, you're outta luck.

As for it being pointless to go to another world, that's not the case in my opinion.

Does the fact that most of the stuff on Hala is from Avlis pallettes not mean things may be OK? The only things that would go missing are any new items we have made when you go back to Avlis.

Oh yeah and welcome all those who venture over to Hala, if I see folks on and I have time I will try to come and give you some DM loving

I also agree with Orl, surely you should be coming over for the RP experience and not to shop.

Sorry, I phrased that badly....

I didn't mean pointless as in "If I can't keep my stuff from there then why bother" but in the "If I go and die and there is a server reset then my Avlis items will disappear" (And there's a fair amount of unique Avlis items to make this a BIG problem for some high level characters, including the military who may lose their uniforms if taken to Halas)

I popped over to Halas earlier today and will return for the RP and the new areas to explore, not just for shopping.

No offense taken, friend. The good thing is Hala is free to choose whether they want to keep up with the Avlis items in their pallette or not. Initially , their items were started by taking all of ours and putting them into their pallette. So, eggyt is correct. You are probably pretty safe going back and forth. Some of Hala's new items are not on our pallette though.

Not sure if I should post here, or in the bug forum. Received an error message pertaining to my character file and it aborted the transfer to Hala. Character name was Jorio Alerian.

Are there issue with long character names like we had with Mythos?

Those issues are long resolved. If you tried portalling to Hala while it was down or if you didn't have the hakpak, then you will have errors.

Im so very new to Avlis its just not funny... that being said the only idea that came to mind for me was are the XP systems compatible? ie if im a 1st level Fighter on Avlis and I kill a rat I will get (X)XP and in the same situation on Hala Iwill get the same (X)XP?

other wise people will migrate to the spot with the better xp...

just my 2 cents

-Seriguard

Erp.. one more thing i noticed taht was funny =) its all over our news about the portal I mean Main page, mass email.... forums... well I just signed up on their forum tohave a peek around and they have not even mentioned it in regualr news onthe forum or onthe main page =)

... just something i noticed.

You can find up-to-date hak paks on the hala ftp at ftp://24.224.162.19 . As long as you found your items on Avlis before July, they will be safe on Hala or at least know for sure that they were created before then. There was also a map around at one point but I can't seem to find it right now, it may have been erased from the site. If anyone actually wants to see it, I'll have a copy on the ftp soon.

Our experience systems are identical although there are more areas to gain xp in Avlis at the moment.

There isn't very much news on my forums right now because I just got home and have been answering questions mostly but give it a few hours and I'll have a few posts up.

Of the quick visit I made there it looks like a good place. It was a bit surreal. Grohl the bully  was chasing a balor and making it cry.

Unforunately I crashed out in the Dm quest. I have a min spec computer and it just can not handle the large size of the hala maps too well. I crashed out trying to get to the third map (out of memory). went back in crashed out going to another 3 rd map of hala (out of memory again).

Sigh I wish I could see more of the place but looks like I will wait until I get a new computer.

Pitched_Black;

So if I have a special item that is a one of a kind in Avlis and was created after July, that item will dissappear if I go to Hala?

Flakey;

how much memory does your computer have? If things are going to crash because of a similar issue I wont even try.

Thanks
