OK what's going on?

Post by Melakin Skywieder » Fri Sep 05, 2003 5:22 am

Lately there have been a run of missing merchants. I went to Le'Or and most of the ones that I buy from (not persistent merchants who dont buy or sell anything) are gone. Elena and all the other at the entrance to Deglos were gone for a couple of days.. Olafgith and Fanos in Elysia.

Is there a merchants strike?

Oh and the druids of Verossian no longer have darts?!? There goes my main income

To defeat an army that vastly outpowers you, a direct attack is of no avail. However, cut off their supply and their combat effectiveness will slowly fade away.

"If the enemy outnumbers you, go around them and cut of their supply" -Sun Tsu-

"An army travels on it's stomach" -Cromwell-

Or, like was said in a thread in the Elysia tavern:

"It has begun!"

Ah ... druids of Verossa ... of course they don't carry darts ... they never use them.

They have that undefeatable battle tactic of polymorphing themselves into a badger or a chicken and then flinging themselves on whatever weapon you happen to be carrying.

AI for these guys ain't high on the logic scale.

Now also remove the magic swords from the slavers and the magic spears from the lizardman and suddenly the economy has a whole different look.

Oh my god, what am i saying? How am i going to afford healing kits now?

yeah, we got a whole other thread on this. IMHO the general feel of the thread was balancing the drops should be relatively low priority compared to some of the other pressing matters. I still say, fix the persistent merchants, get the crafters up to higher levels/better items, then go fix the drops.

Well some advance notice would have been appreciated. Sure Mel can make and sell swords for money, but my alt is too dumb to do that so the only way he can make money is by drops. If nothing is dropped anymore than PC like that are essentially going to be useless, everyone will have to be a crafter.

Not everyone should be.

And as far as attacks in Elysia go...Elysia is neutral. The best way to make it join against MChek would would to attack it. Same thing with the entrance to Deglos. So how long would MChek hold out if all of the nations to the north of it were allied against it due to viglante attacks...starving already, no allies...not very long.

Yah I know it doesnt count so you can attack without reprisal but we are suppose to be roleplaying right?

By this you mean "everyone who wants tons of money", right? If so, where's the nod to thief characters?

Plus, I've even heard of people who happily play characters who neither craft nor farm (nor even steal!) and yet get along just fine ... some guy named Aradangle, or Aradamnit, or something like that comes to mind.

All is not lost, Mel.

the biggest issue that the non-crafters will have is making sure they have enough gold to buy healing potions and kits. A good amount of gold leaves the economy that way and for a lot of people, that same gold is entering and leaving their inventory about the same speed. The key to creating a working economy is making sure that everyone can generate and spend gold at about the same rate. The economy also interacts with how fun the game is. I go to work to make money to pay my bills to have a little fun in my spare time. When I approach the game in my spare time, I'm not doing it to repeat the whole process of my day. To me the trick is not to kill the magic drops entirely but to kill their level of being dropped. There has to be enough stuff being dropped to supply standard adventurers with gold who are planning on having a life that consists of nothing else but adventuring. As long as this remains possible, then the econmy is well on its way to being balanced.

Honestly, I think getting rid of the lizardfolk drops would be fantastic. Concidering I see something in the neighborhood of 50 or more Spear +1's every day at Zvidureth. This means that, at least, 50 Lizardfolk clerics are dieing there a day ... which, if you take an average of what I spawn by myself (two clerics plus about 4 other lizardfolk) That means that adventurers are killing, at least, 200 lizardfolk a RL day. So, in the last month, there have been nearly 6000 lizardfolk killed.

Perhaps the spawns themselves should be reworked as the lizardfolk population should be dieing out altogether. And *where* do they get all those +1 spears, anyway? Is the merchant at Zvidureth selling them back to the lizardfolk? She must be turning a helluva profit.

I'm all for the lizardfolk spear drops and the druid of verosa dart drops being eliminated. As well as the half-elf merc trap drops.

The slaver drops can stay (because at least there is plot surrounding those spawns).

I want every creature in the game to drop gear. All of them.

But I want them to drop normal stuff. Not +1 spears. Just spears.

I want half-orc bandits to drop those friking huge axes. Archers drop bows and arrows. Something.

Take a look at the soldiers on the front and see what I'm talking about. Or the Mikona guards. All of them drop the gear they carry so why not everything else?

There's corpses of Dominators all OVER Mikona ... why can't I have their pretty glowing swords?!

PS If this is supposed to be me, I could let you in on a little secret of how I made a lot of cash (and it's not an exploit or something that's easily repeatable .... but just being in the right place at the right time ... and being a bit lucky)
