Roleplay

Post by Darkfire » Tue Nov 05, 2013 5:42 pm

WrathOG777: "This is a roleplaying game. There is no such thing as winning or losing. Only playing."
_____________________________________________________________________________________

This line right here says it all. When everyone involved puts RP first, interacts, and lets the events that unfold shape their character's response the quality of play increases for everyone. The moment you understand this, you "win" every time. Your experience is 1000x more rich.

I bring this up because of some recent events. The way it was handled showed that the players had their characters take the occurrences of IG events seriously. It was a pleasant reminder of what I enjoy about Avlis and CoPaP. So I'd like to send a special thanks out to the *Four people arrive by portal near the city gates... for playing.

Reactions like that make the world of Avlis seem real, seem alive - not just a bunch of fancy pixels. It makes the characters have emotions. It makes 'consequences' feel real, pain feel real... not just numbers that pop up over your head that can be fixed by a simple quest or a few bandages. It makes the connections, friendships, and relationships between the characters feel real - not just in the same "party".

Cheers. :sauf:

Thanks, I have always loved RPing since I first encountered way back when. And that is what I love Avlis and the CoPaP worlds. But as you have already said Darkfire, Players do take thier Characters reactions and events IG just like real people would. So a BIG thank you to all you players out there, for RPIng your little hearts out. Even you Darkfire. LOL.

Drama!

The RP was fantastic both on the boards and IG. I defiantly felt like a winner, Ariana not so much... :D I can't wait to see what will happen next.

DM's and players (even those who have in some way influenced last night - a lot of you were there in spirit) You rock!

Lady Awesome that slap and "you selfish bitch" was priceless. I will cry over our characters any day with you.

That's not to say I don't like Winning, because I certainly do. It's even more important for the villain to win, it's was creates the conflict!

I will admit the roleplay has gotten exponentially better recently. It seemed to me there was only a handful of really good players with large number of moderate players for the longest time. This is what got me hooked on Avlis to begin with was the Roleplaying back in the beginning. Every where I turn I am seeing some truly great times being had. Whether it be sitting around a fire, scrambling after some random DM spawn, or getting your butts handed to you by a wickedly evil DM plot. I even find myself wanting to play characters that are more off my norm as it increases my own immersion.

Here here to everyone. :prost:

I always get that feeling that good Roleplay is like the best gift one can get in life, for it makes you experience so many things. A book/movie/play can make you see and hear many things, even feel, but you are still a vicarious proxy... roleplay, on the other hand, is something else, roleplay is the epitome of imagination and experience.

Small story as example:

One night I was drinking with a friend in Guadalajara who had a fuck ton of money, the kind of money that allows you to travel all around the world and not worry about living expenses. He told me, for about an hour and a half, about a rave in Ibiza, a desert in Australia, a town in Itally and some friends from England. He asked me if I had any travelling stories. I rarely travel and it's only for business.

I was a bit drunk, so I had the idea to tell him about my playing time as if I was actually there. Oh boy the things I said.

Because... if you stop and think about it, what we've been through, it's simply mind blowing. Whether you like standing your ground against an infinite army and rise victorious from a blood-bath, or the feeling of a fairy touching the very tip of your nose and hear her giggle. The smell of the trees of Le'or in the morning, the smile of that Elysian nymph as she passes by, the laughter that comes from the Leaping Stag Inn, the feeling of caressing a Mircat companion, the wonderful cityscape of Mikona by night from the ATU, the sweat that builds on your eyebrow while climbing mount Crescetoria, the pride of catching and cleaning a slippery trout in Ferrel, smoking Mellow with your friends and laughing at the most stupid things, the adrenaline of your first encounter at the Pen, the embrace of your damsel in distress, and the embrace after she rescues you, the smell of books older than the first tree, the shock of coming back from the death, the endless rivers of fire from hell itself, the fear and lust when a succubus kisses you at Verlog, the first successful spell of your student, your first encounter with a god, your first question, the warmth of your own beautiful flat, the might of your very own underground keep, the finances of your shop, the plotting of your guild; to witness a dawn of infinite colors by the edge of a dream while smoking a good cigar. (and you should have a FUCK TON MORE of experiences, hells, I can't even begin to imagine what a DM would experience in this environment).

My friend listened to those stories until our stomachs reminded us that it was time for breakfast, if not for that I would have continued. It was a very odd feeling, my friend could not stop smiling and asking all kinds of questions. "You make me feel poor" he joked in the end.

That's Roleplay. I don't know why but very few people get to experience all that. I don't know if you guys know how lucky we are.

A rave to Roleplay and a rave to its finest: Avlis'.

Rave to the rp on the Bi Bi trip last night. Some of it was brilliant, and kept me laughing for hours..

The ship control, the pc interaction, the dancing, even the serious stuff with Delaqin was suburb, thank all for a wonderful event.

Its events like those that remind me why i love this place so much~~
