If you think you've found something we missed, please grab a watch and time the duration of the item, then post in the bug tracker if it doesn't match the wiki description of the spell effect. Be sure to any other factors about your character that might affect spell duration, such as UMD, Militant levels, etc.llhht wrote:After using a low duration item and noticing how incredibly long it seemed to last:
Does this also affect spell and effect durations?
IE, does light cast from a lvl 2 mage now last 40 RL minutes?

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
cool news!
I was just talking to somebody yesterday about how it sucked time went by so fast IG, meaning how I didnt like that time passed so fast.
then it hit me.. I can play about 2 hours a day which was cool because that was just over a day in game time, now if I play the 2 hours a day, my 2 hours might be durning night fall the whole time!... Ash is going to get very pale with no sun.. or very tired with no sleep! HEHE JK, cant wait to see this IG
on a side note.. how does this effect the weather, meaning now if I happen to be lucky enough to log in when its 'foggy' (white blinding screen), will this effect last longer. Will it start and stop raining slower now as well?
thanks!

I believe Tairis, Ysgard, and Arkaz all still run on 4 IG minutes = 1 RL minute, unless I missed an announcement somewhere that a particular one of them changed their timing also.Jemir wrote:Okay, so I'm actually semi-joking here, but how about this to spark some conversation:

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
it doesn't mean IC time passes faster on other worlds... just that the IC clock moves faster relative you RL. Time doesn't speed up when you planewalk, though it surely will require some *smudge* if you attempt to RP being gone for a month on Tairis because of their clock, and discover it's been less than a week IC here on Avlis.
It will take only 2 RL days to have a month of Tairis time pass, whereas only 6 IC days will elapse on Avlis. I dunno what to tell you... maybe Tairis rotates faster? lol. I don't believe anyone out there is actually RPing that a month of time has passed every other RL day.

Sarah [Tell]: Dude we did the undead thing like 2 days ago... are you drunk?
Ben [Tell]: Yeah but that's a month ingame!

Tairis, is actually closer to the sun than Avlis, therefore it is very likely it does rotate faster around the sun.Dreamangel wrote:This is completely plausible.spool32 wrote:maybe Tairis rotates faster?

A little Avlis-Tairis lore. The linking plot between Avlis and Tairis, ended up with the two Prime Material Planets, being located inside the same Crystal Sphere. Tairis, was deemed to be closer to the sun, then Avlis, and in a Geo-sync orbit to where portals too, and from each other works all the time.

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
Bumping a fairly old topic here, but it probably has the most related info, so...
http://wiki.avlis.org/Magic:Spell_List
The Avlis wiki is full of spells that still say hour/level or x hour duration, and 24 hour/day durations. Since we players are the ones who maintain that wiki (for the most part), updating any spells to the new times would be something everyone can help fix. Any hour durations should be changed to 4 minutes, and any day durations should be changed to 96 minutes (24x4). You could also say turns instead of minutes, since 1 turn is 10 rounds, and 1 round is 6 seconds, but that would be another layer of crap to translate to get to the same result (IMO only of course, and the spells use RL seconds as a time measure anyway).
If you know that a spell isn't respecting the old hour times (seems to last for 20 minutes instead of 4 minutes per hour that the descriptions says), that would be something to report in the bug tracker, as mentioned a few times before.

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
Hmm can we make sure first that the wiki is competletely up to date with the avlis based spell changes? Then worry about factoring in the time changes for the world clock? I have a lot of trouble going from the (mostly) wrong IG description to the wiki to also take into account our worldclock change and then see if the spell duration is right.
I mostly use spells in combat and my shaahesk is not strong enough in math to keep up with all of this (nor is his puppeteer)

Avlis based spell customizations is my baaane...
Is there an easy way to figure out what a spell has been changed to? (without looking it up on the wiki, since I understand Divine spells are lacking in the Wiki...)

Having the IG descriptions be correct for the Avlis changes would be the best thing since the new XP code!

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
The only way to verify the exact spell effects is by checking the scripts used in Avlis, so that limits the people who can do it. Going through them all to make sure they are correct would be a rather large task, but I try to fix anything I see that is wrong.
Updating the durations after the hour change is something everyone can do though, since it is simply converting the old hours to 4 minutes. The spell durations remained the same while the IG hour went from 4 minutes to 20.

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
AFAIK IG description changing takes a tlk revamp, so that is a whole other ball of string MadKat would have to play with (I made a funny there!). Anything that is still in need of fixing will probably have to wait for the next tlk to come out, and someone to make the actual edits.Speedracer wrote:Having the IG descriptions be correct for the Avlis changes would be the best thing since the new XP code!

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
And since I never can help myself when it comes to things like this...
If you want to see something changed, fixed or added to Avlis, one of the best ways to make it happen is submitting an application to join the team in some way*. We really need more QA testers to help test stuff, and since the subcontractor program is gone, you can always apply as a scripter, builder or anything else that fits in the little boys and girls club we like to call the Creation Control Center (the CCC sticker you see by some folks avatars).

*fyi that is pretty much exactly how I started. I wanted to see the old sewing machine updated, but no one had time to do it. I knew next to nothing about scripting, but learned as I went (bugging PJ to death all that time with questions). Unfortunately... or fortunately (still not sure) I picked one of the more complicated systems to mess with in Avlis (all sorts of db this and sortset nwnx stuff that... stuff), so it took me something like a year to get it done. Now I am smartz and know a thing or two about scripting even (enough to be dangerous), and you can too!
Making changes to Avlis these days isn't held up by our desire to do the change, as much as it is by how it fits in with other priorities, and then getting it tested properly. More people doing stuff means less things being tossed further down on to do lists because of other things having a higher priority.
Also, Avlis has very strict QA policies about how things need to pass testing before they are added to the live modules we play on. More testers means things pass those tests faster, as well as fail/get fixed faster (and less potential bugs slip through). This is why some fixes and updates can take a long time to happen. Players aren't here to bug test stuff. They want to play and have things work properly, and some types of bugs can be really bad if they aren't caught until much later (and a rushed bug fix can often cause more problems than it fixes).
Besides, QA testing is just plain fun when you get to blow up, abuse, twink out and dm tweak everything and anything in Avlis, then hit reset and start over (especially when we get some major party testing happening).

Thankyou. I've never played the IG time as it was stated years ago the reason for time was strictly for spell regulation. I've always played it between 1.5 and 2 because I didn't wish to rp with Katroine, Gracie having to change Morrans armour after him claiming "I made boom boom".
ThankyouMadk@. I love you. If I haven't said it before it was because I wasn't ready for a commitment yet. Take me.

Re: In-Character Time Change Imminent
My little bump of this old news probably should have been in a new topic with linkage in hindsight.
The time change was done quite a while ago for anyone who is seeing the title for the first time. I guess that is why they say not to bump old stuff like I did. My bad.
