Coming Soon Bump!

MadK@ wrote:The 2010 Avlis Hak update is now available to download and will officially go into effect on the 4th December 2010

There is some big changes to the Avlis required files with the first release of the new tileset compilation which replaces all tileset haks used on all Avlis servers.
The purpose of this compilation was to clean up the existing tilesets removing duplicated and conflicting resources as well as numerous fixes to walkmeshes, doors and the addition of some new content packaged into a clean set of 5 haks.

New tilesets include:
Elven City (Little Baron)
Wildwoods (Sixesthrice)
Wildlands (Sixesthrice)
ProjectQ extension (ProjectQ)
City & Castle Interior Windows (gaoneng)
Castle Interior windows (Stephen Nispel)
Marble Elven Interiors (Helvene)
Suspended forest extension (Helvene)
Wooden Elven Interiors (Helvene)

Full listing available for viewing over at Javaforge http://www.javaforge.com/proj/doc.do?pa ... c_id=27532

avlis_tileset_v1.hak
avlis_tilem1_v1.hak
avlis_tilem2_v1.hak
avlis_tilet1_v1.hak
avlis_tilet2_v1.hak

Or if you prefer all the above haks in one convenient installer package!

Just so I am straight here. What your saying is I can wipe my hak folder clean and just install the new haks and be good to play on avlis. What about off world will those haks be needed and will they still work?

My plan is to rename the existing hak folder, make a new one and then copy the new haks into it - not forgetting the new tlk file into the tlk folder of course - then see what I can play. When I try a PW which requires any other files, I can move them from the renamed hak folder to the new one.

Once I am certain none of the other files are required anywhere, I will back them up and then delete them

As long as you don't remove/delete the old ones until after the 4th, yes.

For othotbail and others:
Off world haks haven't changed because of this afaik (though a redo of all the CoPaP haks is also on the way soon). They will probably still use the copaptlk_4_8.tlk ubntil then, so don't get rid of that (.tlks are relatively small anyways). Whatever other worlds use besides the current CoPaP haks will stay the same for now. This update is Avlis content only. Simply put, all those server specific haks got mushed into one set all our servers will use (with a ton of bug fixes), so no more needing special haks for specific servers, or builders crying about not being able to use their favorite stuff on another server to make something cool (I can say that because I did a lot of that crying... no generic doors on Deglos. The horror!). This also opens the door for easy updates across Avlis (no duplicate files is a nice perk), rather than wondering if adding a new hak will break a server, or ever get updated again by the person who made it.

Since nothing is fun without a new and improved sticker on it, MadK@ also added a bunch of new tileset stuff along with redoing the Avlis_main with a ton of new stuff everyone can use (big understatement there). If you plan on submitting any new housing or areas soon, hold off until you try the new haks (CoPaP ones as well if you can wait a bit longer).

As for the size questions, for those who can't be bothered checking:
avlis_main1_8.hak > 383 MB
avlis_main1_9a+b.hak > 500 MB

so +117 MB there with the new version.

avlis_tileset_v1.hak
avlis_tilem1_v1.hak
avlis_tilem2_v1.hak
avlis_tilet1_v1.hak
avlis_tilet2_v1.hak
> 710 MB

(Listed with .hak names so you know what can be deleted. Some of these may be needed on other worlds, so double check first)
Abyss (Abyss.hak)
Alleys (NWAlleys11.hak)
City Interior (ci_blank_tin01.hak)
City Forest Rural (CFR_CG04_1.30.hak)
City Forest Rural Patch (cfr_cg04_130_b.hak)
CTP Generic Doors (ctp_genericdoors.hak)
Gestalt Caves (GestaltCaves.hak)
JXP Forest (JXP_Forest.hak)
JXP Mountains (JXP_Mountains.hak + JXP_Master_a.hak)
Lava Caves (LavaCaves.hak)
Mountain City (MountainCity.hak)
Rock City (RockCity.hak)
Rock City Update (RockCitySoU.hak)
Rocky Mountains (Rocky_Mountains.hak)
Tilesets (TM-Tilesets-v91B.hak)
Tree City (TreeCity_2.hak)
Vel's Mines (VelsMines.hak)
Worm's Cypress v.2 (Worm_CypressV2.hak)
Worm's Mirkwood and Patch1 (wrm_Mirkwood.hak + wrm_MirkwoodP1.hak)
Worm's Undersea (wrm_undersea.hak)
> 593 MB

so -117 MB there (assuming you use the fading trees version of JXP_Forest.hak, which is the default in the new ones*).

Grand total of approximately 0 MB in size difference between new and old Avlis haks. :P I never checked the difference with the mains added now, so that is pretty cool. All that new stuff and no size gain (sounds like an ad for some new weight loss product). We really had a ton of duplicate stuff between the server haks. Even with having to duplicate and rename a ton of content to work on new servers, it still chopped thousands of duplicate files out of the haks.

* The idea of this was for nothing you see to change on the servers when the haks were updated. There are a few exceptions. Most notably probably, as mentioned above, JXP_Forest.hak is now the default for all areas using the Forest tileset on all servers, so you'll see a few places change to use the new trees - with the optional fading canopy stuff if you have it enabled (FoM will be an obvious one for some folks, and is pretty cool with it IMO).

Remember to use that bug tracker link at the top of the page if you see anything weird or broken.

And since I can't edit posts in News...
Remember to use that bug tracker link at the top of the page if you see anything weird or broken.
...also includes the toolset. http://wiki.avlis.org/Player_Housing#Haks Has the new order used atm for players, and many of the tileset changes were to how things are listed/used in the toolset, as much as IG, so bug report anything weird there too.

FYI, I needed to add the avlis_ext_1.hak, avlis_ext_2.hak, avlis_ext_3.hak, avlis_ext_4.hak, avlis_ext_5.hak, copap2da.hak, copapanatomy.hak, copapbaseitem.hak, copapcreature.hak, copapheadhand.hak, copappheno.hak, copapplaceable.hak, copapportrait.hak and copaptexture.hak before I could login to Elysia.

Not tried other servers yet

The CoPaP files haven't changed (yet), other than the .tlk we use now, and that is us getting a head start on the rest of CoPaP. Don't trash your CoPaP haks. The .ext files are still placeholder files for server side content, so you'll need them (1k text files for players saying the same thing).

Avlis is now an express train to crash town.
As the size of an explosion increases, the number of problems it is incapable of solving approaches zero.

Using Save link as only creates broken links. I've tried registering there and if I attempt to go directly there it says I don't have access. Any suggestions?
