End of an Era here at Avlis:

Post by Alexandru Stanicu » Fri May 14, 2010 9:32 pm

I wanted to take a moment to discuss some changes that are coming to the team as well as to offer thanks to some people who have done a great job for Avlis.
When I started Avlis in 2002 there was Mikona, a couple rows of the Wilderness server and that was it, but not for long. After I joined the team in late 2002 we finished putting in the rest of the Wilderness server, brought Elysia on line and began to code up custom systems such as loot, xp and a system to rent inn rooms. We became rather aware that we did not have enough full time builders and coders and even after asking the players to join still did not have enough. We did have some players that wanted to help but not join the team...and thus was born the Avlis Subcontractor system.

Over the years our various subs have done everything from build a single needed area to code entire custom systems and anything between. We honestly would not have been able to come as far as fast as we did without them. However we have reached a point in our development that we have stopped the frantic growth, the bulk of our custom systems are in and running fairly smoothly and there is really very little for sub contractors to do these days, and thus we have decided to bring this program to an end. (Any current subs are welcome to apply to join the development team as full members)

So I have to ask everyone to give a big thank you to the Avlis Sub contractors current and past for all that they have done for the World of Avlis over the years!

THANK YOU!

At one stage a long time ago, I tried doing some work as a Subcontractor here. I also assisted with Player Housing for a while. I decided quite quickly neither of those tasks was the sort of thing I wanted to do.

Therefore, I know from personal experience the work they did, how difficult it is and how demanding it is.

So the people who did that have my heartfelt thanks. Awesome work guys and gals :respekt:

Thankyou all.

If you are subbing now and you want to be a full builder or scripter, please do apply. We're turning development inward with an eye to density rather than expansion, and there are many, many cave entrances with no cave inside...

I have been a sub, worked with subs, and surely have benefited from the work of subs, as have we all. Thanks, subs!

Spool32 are you sure that you aren't talking about my wallet??!

Seriously though, the systems here are amazing and stand as a testament to their work.

*Does the shameless plug thing*
If you aren't a sub, but are curious about how stuff works behind the curtain, join QA (Send Madk@ a pm or email staff@avlis.org asking how). All you have to do is play test stuff and find ways to break it, and it is a major part of keeping Avlis as good as it is. If you can play the game, and report about what does or doesn't work the way it should, you are qualified. QA is a great way get introduced to how things work here before applying for more, even if you have no experience at building or scripting.
