Changes to player housing:

Post by Alexandru Stanicu » Fri May 14, 2010 9:39 pm

Folks I just wanted to say that we have decided to combat module bloat and decrease lag we are going to be deleting all player housing and the contents of all rented/purchased persistent containers.

Ok now that I have your attention (some one call the paramedics for NH4) I would like to talk about some changes to player housing.

The number of new requests for player housing have dropped to the point that we are no longer going to have a separate department for player housing, but rather are going to fold this task back into the build team where it came from and the supervision of the Lead Producer.

I would like to have everyone give the outgoing Housing Director CPU a big round of applause and thank him for all of the hard work he has done as the Housing Director. He has taken player housing from a haphazard process to a clearly defined orderly one and has put in a herculean effort working on housing over the years.

THANK YOU!

CPU was a constant source of stability through the PH program. Thank you for all your efforts, as well as your many contributions behinds the scenes!

You may not know, but pre-FOIG, there was a long period of time where the only reason we had vault backups was that CPU downloaded the entire vault, over 10,000 folders with multiple characters, every few days and burned it to a CD before the hard disks filled up.

When I was but a newbie to the toolset, trying to build my first player house, I sent along a few PMs to CPU to get his assistance with some questions I had. I'm sure dozens have done the same.

Thanks for all of the help over the years!

My god. Considering the amount of time I spend away....I believe that owe CPU a ENORMOUS vote of thanks! It is even more appreciated the work you did.

CPU has always been a huge help with PH stuff, though I don't know if he's forgiven me for the mess he had to check through to get the AJA tower in Deglos long ago. It went through at least one other housing coordinator before CPU finally made it happen (can you tell it was my very first project in the toolset ever?) and I still have every pm about it saved. Some of my questions back then were... well saying I was a noob is being kind, but all my questions were answered anyways. All of the people involved with player housing have been great over the years.

It's fair to say that in many ways, player housing has been a combination incubator and training system for budding toolset enthusiasts. Over time, those skills have paid back into the world a hundredfold.

Huge thanks to CPU for directing player housing for so many years and an equally big thanks to Marleh for helping make a waiting list virtually non existent.

Thank you CPU and the others who helped in Player Housing! I know a few years back it was totally hectic, but CPU kept slugging through and helped many many players to create their little piece of personalised Avlis, be it houses, temples, guild halls or shops. :D

A toast of gratitude! :prost:
