Paizo and Pathfinder players, welcome!

Post by spool32 » Fri Dec 04, 2009 10:30 pm

Welcome, Paizo members and Pathfinder players!

Avlis has been around for a long time in its NWN implementation, and as we grow the community to include PnP players we hope there's lots of crossover in both directions. So welcome, and we hope you give NWN Avlis a try!

If you don't own Neverwinter Nights 1, you can buy the complete set including the original campaign, two complete expansions, and three top-flight community minimodules by clicking here. Total cost = $12.59! If you have the game, look to the left and you'll see the Download Hakpaks link... download the custom content and then join us ingame! You'll find Avlis in the PW Story section of Gamespy, or you can direct connect at world.avlis.org. The ports for the servers are 51xx where xx => Mikona:21, Wilds:22, Elysia:23, LeOr:24, Deglos:25, Ferrell:26, Visi:29, UD:30, and M'Chek:31.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, and again... welcome to Avlis!
Success will be lovely, but you will have to go out and get it! Failure will invite itself in.

In 1981 I was 2. I was about 8 or 9 when my parents bought me the red box. My older cousin, who was waaay into it, had all the box sets and a bunch of AD&D books. He'd make up his own rules that would apply to all our combined action figures (I still envy him his Star Wars collection) and we'd take over the living room at his house. Later, we got his younger brother and our friend into the action, and even later our friend's little brother. We'd play all kinds of adventure modules, and my cousin made a whole campaign for us once.

A few years later, after we'd all grown up and gone our separate ways, I bought NWN and all the expansions, started playing the original campaigns, but like the rest of the CRPGs I buy, never finished them (though CRPGs are still my favorite genre). NWN sat on my shelf for a couple years, until 2004 when I moved in with a bunch of guys right after college (some of them were still in college, and a couple others had graduated but were just bumming around town like me) and we decided to get broadband. I thought to myself "I should try multiplayer gaming" something I'd only done with a couple free games in the past. I went through my collection and lo and behold, NWN had multiplayer. "This could be interesting" I thought to myself. Started looking for a regular group that went through modules or something, and stumbled across Avlis. "Persistent world, huh. This must be kind of like that Everquest game that everyone's playing."

I've been playing here above any other hobby ever since. This place is fantastic.

And now it's come full circle. I have a PnP sourcebook of Avlis, and it's inspired me to get in touch with some old friends and roll some dice, something I haven't done in years. Unfortunately I won't be able to get back with my first gaming group for various reasons, but that's life.

I don't think we have or will have any Pathfinder players YET. I need to make adjustments to some of the rules in the book to satisfy the Pathfinder players and make the book more compatible with the game. When Nob and I do that, and re-issue an updated version of the PDF for them, I will crank up the buzz over there again and see if we can funnel some of them here.

Pretty much what I gathered from reading all the comments on the boards.

Good luck

Yep, no worries though. A year from now, I aim to have Avlis be a force in the Pathfinder community, much like we did with NWN. Call it a new year's resolution. It just takes time, and like with NWN, it must be earned with quality content. The criticism Avlis got when the servers first went live was way worse than that.
