Coinage and weight
Thought I'd post here rather than Ask the Team as it's a NWN general question.
I was playing just now and picked up some gold as loot and saw that the weight I was carrying increased from 89 to 90. Now the obvious thing to say is that gold does weigh something, but what? From table top days gold had a weight of 1lb per 100 (or somthing similar) yet I was under the impression that the NWN engine didn't count gold towards a toon's weight carried, otherwise those folks with a few million running around would be severely hampered!
Does anyone have a clue as to what gold weighs, or am I being too literal and worrying about nothing?

Re: Coinage and weight
My guess would be that you picked up something else, or took something out of a magic bag without noticing.
In any case, gold weighting something would be impractical in NWN, since there isn't some fixed-value goods like gems, which can be used as payment on par with gold.

Nope I'm certain that I opened a chest, saw some gold, clicked on the gold, saw my cash total increase by that amount and saw my weight carried increase from 89 to 90. I'm also certain I was neither high, drunk or drooling when I did...just in case that's the next question

Re: Coinage and weight
Actually, this exact thing has happened to me, with nothing but money exchange going on. Could be some BioWare glitch?

Re: Coinage and weight
Probably. Even at 100k gp/1lb the weight allowance increase can get fairly bad. Another reason I ask is because the player housing price lisitings included a 'piggy bank' in which to store gold. Thought that might be itHamlet wrote:Actually, this exact thing has happened to me, with nothing but money exchange going on. Could be some BioWare glitch?

Re: Coinage and weight
The bank was made for other reasons. For example guild officers used to have to carry round their guild's gold reserve, and if a guild officer suddenly goes missing, ouch. There is also a FOIG reason, of course...Kandi_Nulein wrote:Probably. Even at 100k gp/1lb the weight allowance increase can get fairly bad. Re: Coinage and weight
Thinking about it, I have noticed that NWN sometimes miscalculate weights when you place a small item into a bag. This leads to the weight being close (e.g. .1 lbs) to the point where the displayed weight changes. This state may be stable for a while. Then, at some action, likely anything affecting the inventory, the proper weight is added, and you "gain" 1 lb.
