Nice - before adding these to the wiki do they need to be approved?

I can add them tomorrow if they are ok to be put up there.

I think they need to be nanshilaed first, as these words are direct from hebrew. There aren't enough ooye's yet. Also, there are a few double-ups that perhaps the exact meaning needs to be determined.

For example, Lieulia is already listed for the word night. So perhaps lieulia can be changed slightly to mean evening, 'emesh be changed to yemesh to mean true night, and chatsowth be changed to chatsyemesh for midnight.
“People speak of hope as if it is this delicate, ephemeral thing made of whispers and spider's webs. It's not. Hope has dirt on her face, blood on her knuckles, the grit of cobblestones in her hair, and just spat out a tooth as she rises for another go.”

Not up to me. The words I provided are Hebrew and range from old biblical Hebrew to Modern. I did see some similarities between Nanshilae and Hebrew. Most of Nanshilae seems to be the phonetic spelling of Hebrew. Which was something I had a major trouble finding in Latin alphabet; it was always Hebrew alphabet and I don't understand that at all. I posted the Latin alphabet version to the Hebrew word.

Need more numbers as well! I am by no means an expert at this and I could be horribly off at following the proper guidelines and style. Hopefully this has the right nanshilae feel to it! All the "new" numbers are custom (though some have other RL meanings, or are acronyms or something, but it is unintentional) If the right people in the right places don't like this, no worries! But it is here if you'd like to make it official.

Lastly, there could be some errors. I just made this up, so if you see any conflicts or contradictions, don't be afraid to point them out.

Existing:

4. bah
5. maysh
6. shaysh
7. sheev
8. shmoe
9. taysh
I'd like to see some more numbers added. (esra is 10, it exists already)

5. ames
6. sesh
7. vehes

29.
  • taysh'shny
(229 - nine and twenty and two hundreds... I put different formats to see what is liked best)
  • taysh'shny-niyah
    taysh'shny'niyah
500.
  • ames
(567 - seven and sixty and five hundreds)
  • sheev'shish-ames
    sheev'shish'ames
1,542
  • There's lots of ways we could do that. To stick with the proper style, I'd propose this: (2 + 40 + 600 + 900)

    shta'arba-sesh v'tes
    shta'arba'sesh v'tes
    shta'arba'sesh-tes

Hebrew word for "to hunt": tsadah
Suggested Nanshilae:
Hunt (v): tzadahlas
Hunt (n): tzadahlith
Hunters: tzadahlthen (follows rules of Le'nofaythen, dropping the last syllable of the root verb tza-dahl-as)
Hunter (male): tzadahlth
Huntress (female): tzadahlthan

Hunt well! - tzadahl'toova!

Can someone nanshilae-fy and official stamp some of these? They'd be very useful.

Re: Nanshilae words.

I've (with Spool's blessing) added a bunch of words to the wiki the past few days. Most of them are verbs.

Of the suggested words here in this thread, I'll be grabbing the hebrew suggestions that gute found, and trying to Nanshify them.

The verbs weren't too difficult... I used a search engine that returned several words for each one (damned old languages) and I looked for ones out of those results that seemed to carry the known syllables that nanshilae makes use of. Then, if it was a short verb, toss on a las, tas, ras...etc and away we went. I think I added 35-40 verbs. Apologies for any bastardization of the languages (Hebrew/Nanshilae).

If there's a verb you want to see/use, check to see if there's a synonym for it. Keeping the language simple yet effective is a goal here. So, while there is a verb for look and one for see (or hear and listen), those are similar actions but differing intents. You can hear without listening, or look without seeing/spotting. But, in a case like "become", it fits with a future "to be", and would not be as necessary. "I will become king" = "I will be king in the future" = "Eni e'hay Fletcher" ]8) . "She became angry" = "She is being angry in the past" = "Hayah kaos".

Yeah, speaking of "to be", pathos and I got a future "to be" and past "to be" going (mostly pathos with me nodding along in agreement). While the present "to be" is an irregular verb and is implied, there was never a noted verb to use for past and future. So, a warm welcome to "hayas" the mystery verb!

Present Tense: (still implied. If not, it would be Eni hay toova etc. So, we drop the verb here)
* I am good. Eni toova.
* You are good. Ta toova.
* He is good. Loo toova.
* She is good. Lah toova.
* We are good. Nethnu toova.
* You are good. Tem toova.
* They are good. Loom toova.

Past Perfect:

* I was good. Hayti toova.
* You were good. Hayta toova.
* He was good. Hayoe toova.
* She was good. Hayah toova.
* We were good. Haynu toova.
* You were good. Haytem toova.
* They were good. Hayoo toova.

Future Imperfect:

* I will be good. Eni e'hay toova.
* You will be good. Ta tee'hay toova.
* He will be good. Loo ye'hay toova.
* She will be good. Lah ye'hay toova.
* We will be good. Nethnu ne'hay toova.
* You will be good. Tem tee'hay toova.
* They will be good. Loom ye'hay toova.

One note on past/future (also from spool). Elves in general are not as concerned with exact times/dates of events, preferring to think in terms of seasons or longer stretches of time. So, we don't have a tomorrow/yesterday (though you can use "yoomen aeleh" - "days before" or "yoomen leebah" - "days next").

Next stop: more nouns and adjectives.

Thaylis Beign: Morgan, did you cast recitation?
Morgan Thornheart: Yes
Thaylis Beign: *nods*
Morgan Thornheart: Aarilax blesses you all. Now get the fuck out of here.
