How can you choose to fail a save in NWN?
In PnP (I know this isn't... work with me...) you can choose to fail a save. I ran into a situation earlier where I wanted to fail a save but I could not (Reflex bonus was too high and 1 doesn't auto-fail). Is there a way to do this in NWN? And if so, how?

Nope, not without a DM.
Vetinari: I have noted before that you have a definite anti-authoritarian streak, Commander.
Vimes: Sir?
Vetinari: You seem to have retained this even though you are Authority.

Find some armor with a low max dex bonus. I once used to carry that sort of thing round just in case another party member fell off one of the ledges or bridges in Deglos with the dex check, then I'd have to go after them.

<.<
That's exactly the situation I found myself in... And the only method I could think of (albeit, later on) to achieve a failed save.
Thanks! *wanders off to Deglos to give it a try*

I had a similar situation once as well, was during random RP though and not about a DM calling for a role (not sure about Nay's situation here). So what about simply choosing not to roll and RP the failure? Would that be okay in that situation?Sarmanos wrote:Nope, not without a DM.

To elaborate it depends on the DM as well. Also items can work, but no guarantees there since you still have to roll the dice.

Yeah... In this case it was a static "trap" where, if you failed your reflex save, you "Fell a long way". Needless to say, with some dexterity bonus dehancing equipment and rolling until I got a 1... I fell... And got completely and thoroughly lost in Deglos!
LOL Good fun!

Absent a DM, you never have to roll anything, or respond to a roll, or respect what you do end up rolling. All that is by agreement of the players. So sure, you can absolutely choose not to roll, and play it however you want.Obscure wrote:I had a similar situation once as well, was during random RP though and not about a DM calling for a role (not sure about Nay's situation here). Success will be lovely, but you will have to go out and get it! Failure will invite itself in.

You mean this wasn't to rescue someone, you did it on purpose?NayalaGelbert wrote:Yeah... In this case it was a static "trap" where, if you failed your reflex save, you "Fell a long way". There's roadsigns, y'know?
Also, papainhell & others made sure that the place is geographically adequate. Now, if you have problems thinking tunnel-wise ... I suspect you might be playing an Avlissian Elf.

Someone put in roadsigns? or is that only on the causeway?Hamlet wrote:There's roadsigns, y'know? Also, papainhell & others made sure that the place is geographically adequate. Now, if you have problems thinking tunnel-wise ... I suspect you might be playing an Avlissian Elf.
I hate waiting for a server reset to get my gear back, but if was easier to find where I had been I would love to try deglos again!

Yes. There are some. Most are on the not-so-out-there-in-the-barren-hills places. Common sense applies, though. And yes, ... even though it's papainhell we're talking 'bout.Speedracer wrote: Someone put in roadsigns? or is that only on the causeway?
