I sometimes do this as a general warning to the server that I'm poking around the place stalking PCs.

Sometimes I don't do the cookie part until later though...

I am always terrified when I get cookies and I am running around where I shouldn't be.

Be afraid, be VERY VERY afraid in that case, since we CAN see where you are at ALL times

Try checking the number of people on the server from outside the game, if the number is higher than the number of players in the playerlist (don't forget to include yourself) then you're gonna possibly be in trouble.

This does not always work though

Every DM handles cookies differently from what I've seen.

Personally, I'm fond of the 'warning' cookie and the larger "no really, that's the end of the event...really!" cookie.

As for what's the socially accepted norm for thanking DMs for cookies...there really isn't one. I've gotten everything from "TY" to "I hate you so very very much right now"* . I don't think any of us (correct me if I'm wrong) get offended by not getting a form of thanks in the DM channel for cookies. For me, it's more important to get that after event "hey that was fun" kinda thing *shrug* but that's just me

Admittedly I miss running into DMs most of the time (damn my stupid playtimes), though that works when I've needed it to.
Though checking the player on character selection works (should do anyway), can also tell which DM it is, as long as they aren't possessing something that is.
I also know how to keep track of which NPC a DM's possessed (well, the non-hostile ones anyway).

BEST THING EVER: One of the members of a party had gone AFK, and the DM with us got bored. DM somehow possessed the PC and had him walking around and "saying" stupid things about himself. Then the player returned, catching our DM in the act.

DM, embarrassed, tried to cookie us all into silence. "Shh shh! *cookies!*"

I figure, it was nearly a year ago, and I'm not mentionning names, so it ain't breaking faith to share the story. But be warned, my fine fellow... there are pics, should you think of retribution!

In all my experience theres three differen't types of cookie

1) the cookie dough, from good rp.
2) the lightly baked soft and warm cookie, given out after events.
3) the burnt cookie, oh shit I didn't mean to plane everyone in the server cookie..

my favorites the dough and sometimes lightly baked still soft and warm cookies. A good hard crunchy burnt cookie does sometimes go down well with milk though.
