Well done to everyone!

:santa: :tree: :santa: :tree: :santa:

Every single vote mattered and counted guys. Many thanks for the comments. Here are all that we got. It was an awesome 2008! All the best for 2009!

:santa: :tree: :santa: :tree: :santa:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a lot of thinking, I'm voting for Hyacinth and Angus. Individually the two of them are awesome characters, and seeing them  go nose to nose on everything for this past year has been a lot of fun to watch.

Eldrea, I could not ask for a better person to RP with or want any other Harpinger to debate with, argue with, and slaughter with. (cheers mate!)

Miriel has added depth to my character with her RP. She gave my character something special over the last year... inspiration, good or bad it has always been fun. (thank you maya)

Hyacinth Pike & Silver Fox
- Light and darkness, these two help accentuate the dualities of Avlis and how they have to co-exist on a daily basis. (Even if neither likes it.) Great examples of Avlis Holy Warriors.

Hyacinth is consistently bitchy and difficult around people in the Team Evil jersey. Props to her!

Silver is a wonderful believable evil char and the face of an evil outfit, even if she isn't the brains...

Miriel Hana Xilo'ruthii is still #1. The thing with her is, that, even after so much time, she keeps evolving, pushes other PC's who interact with her into the same direction (=evolving), has so many facets, is flexible with whom she can interact (doesn't matter if you're a Malekian or a Toranite, she'll do the tightrope walk with ease), teaches & learns  at the same time, is always fun, even if she's serious, her emotes are unique and plays a terrific Sage. My vote goes to her.

For the 2nd place I'll just mention/vote a few PC's(mostly my fav's), who'd have deserved a Monthly Win, but haven't yet (some of them have...): Alvinar Lir'Tanor, Anomandaari, Sammy Valorien, Rali'vinee Ish'tarestacia, Selash, Faeldridge the Quick, Drax Zygan, Any Joeyo PC and last but not least Ath'nook

Thorfinn: Has busted his ass this year.  He's been the temporary Warmaster, Speaker of the Hands, and the always popular Manager of the Moontree.  Every minute of it he's kept the guilds together, and made Avlis more fun for everyone he could.

Flenken: Everything a Gnome should be, everything a Red should be, and fun to be around 100% of the time.

Harbouring a personal insanity takes talent. Watching this isanity grow together with the character - often in a different direction than the character - is a blast. Anomandaari and Ath'nook have made my head spin all the year round - may they continue doing so.

Miriel is just excellently played.  Never have I not enjoyed time with her.

Lucien Dark - What more can I say? Consistenly roleplayed, never out of character. One of my favourite characters. A pleasure to play with and to DM for.

A true Paladin, and a great player. Given me a new found respect for the LG alignment. I always have a great time DMing for and playing with Hyacinth!

Frapp
is always a joy to play with, the loveable non-stereotypical kobold, who's now getting on a bit (for a kobold that is).

Bedlam is portrayed so well as somewhat mad, though he has some rare moments of sanity. Always comes up with (or casts) something unexpected, so I have now begun to expect the unexpected around him.

Oorayv and Hyacinth Pike - These two (and the other hats they wear) are fresh, funny, challenging and interesting. Always a pleasure and an inspiration.

Selash - Simply a superbly played elf

Oorayv - evil in a polite way

Flenken has grown from the little mage with the cupcakes, to one of the most badass scryers on Avlis. His growth has been incredibly entertaining to watch, and his progression demands recognition!

Silver is the team-player Malekite. Ebul, but with a smile and a pat on the back! Look forward to rp'ing with her every time.

Vintrinia has not only been awesome to RP with, but also a big part of my characters development.

Its more fun to annoy Hyacinth Pike than any other character on Avlis.

Ath'nook and Anomandaari are two unique creatures played to the extreme at every moment.

Two votes are not enough! Not by a long shot. Lucien is awesomely played, month in, month out. The depth of the character and consistency that he is played keeps me coming back for more!

Kurt Villainova... what can I say? I don't see him around enough for one! But secondly, a very well played character. Takes the CE/Malekite alignment and does wonderful things with it, a true inspiration to anyone who wants to play an evil character. I would like to add mad props to Silver Fox, Ang, Quin, Aur, Orfanos, Liam, Vesdrac, Oorayv.. and anyone else I've had the pleasure of playing with in the last year. I'm sure I've forgotten someone even so.

Flenken is pure fun. Pure baked and frosted fun.

Bedlam is original and entirely predictable in his unpredictability.

Hyacinth is as sweet as she is a hardass.

Oorayv is the kind of evil I wish I could be! :D

I've had the oppurtunity to play with Ash with all three of my characters and I have to say, he is beautifully RPed every time, I don't think i've even seen an OOC comment in the talk channel, I have also DMed him a few times, just little things, but again, wonderfully RPed and is true to his character.

Tevez is, once again, my vote for RPer of the Year, if ever you could define the "rough and ready hero" i'm pretty sure you'd come up with Tevez, a great character to be around, has a clear sense of who he is and what his motivations are, plus he owns a bar at the rock... which is by far the coolest place to have a bar. He's funny when he can be and serious when he needs to be, he's a hero for all seasons lol. Tevez Rocks. even if he did just make up a first name and expect everyone to go with it...

If 2008 is a pie, Miriel is almost everything it's made out of: the cream, the fruit, the paste and the sugar. Everything but one thing however: the cherry atop, the treat you save for last, that's Ath'nook Nekk'en. These two characters have been delicious this year!

Bedlam has done the full gambit of totally looney wild mage to the fully encompassing sage of the wild arts.

Flenken's
unique perspective always keeps me on my toes.

Losin has been a joy to watch as her character adapts to changes and her environment!

Mhog is just well played consistently, and well, you know one of the best power-crafters out there!

Oorayv'levena is one of the characters I talk about to my friends who don't play to convince them to come join Avlis. He's a very nuanced, disarming evil, and it doesn't hurt a bit that the player behind him is hilarious and quick.

Frankly, I think Flenken has this in the bag, and if he doesn't... man, who the heck did the rest of you vote for? He does levitate my rothe, jaa.

The rise and rise of Silver Fox this year has been a pleasure to experience. Not merely an extremely well drawn and fascinating character in her own right, she also continually generates opportunities for those around her to join in the fun and stretch their own roleplaying muscles to the full.

The other character for whom I have gained a great appreciation and admiration over the course of this year is Ulu Elexin. Not a tyro performer like many great Avlissian PCs, she instead reveals the depth and complexity of her character by offering small, subtle, and extremely tantalising insights into her past and her psyche. Not only this, but she is also played with considerable concern for the fun of others, whether interacting with them on friendly or hostile terms. What more could one ask for?

Ssamueosillo just always makes me laugh he's horribly funny and makes my day.

Frapp's done alot to help me build my char RP wise. An awesome char and always a joy

Thralia is the character that I play with the most. She is a fierce fighter and can be motherly and tender to help hela those in need.

Miasha was a follower of Oma but over the year has followed many paths and finally followed her heart to wear the green I so love.  thanks to both these players and characters as they made my year great and fun to play.

Darias is usually quiet, but there's a lot more depth to the character once you get it out of him. A very well developed character that hopefully everyone gets the chance to see the full potential.

Vesdrac is just awesome. Many things I'd love to say why, but we'll leave it at a very nicely developed character and very talented player.

when it comes to good RP, what I generally look at is how "real" do they seem? Do they always "do teh right thing", or do they show internal conflict, conscious and subconscious, do they do things that make sense based on theior pasts, but not in the present. Do they sometimes screw things up? Do they deal with those screwups instead of acting like nothign happened? Do they have divided or conflicting emotions? Real Life people do all of these things.... not enough PCs do though... Davilia and Lalant both can be counted on to nearly always RP the quirks and bumps and imperfections and confusion real people undergo, and react with the muddled day to day sort of things everyone sees in reality every day, but so seldom in RP. Not only that, they can both be counted on to be active, interesting, and fun, and MOST of all, to encourage and support that high quality of Roleplaying in those around them, inspiring fun and quality game play everywhere they go.

Nobody makes my Avlis time more fun and action-packed than Ulu Elexin.

Silver Fox has done more for my character's development than any other PC.  I salute Lycanthropy for his fantastic character and willingness to always involve others.  Cheers.

Hyacinth Pike & Silver Fox
Both these characters made Janur rethink his values and priorities - the one made him turn towards the light, the other encouraged him to think better of folks who live at the dark side...

Silver Fox! Too nice for a Malekite but too fun to forget!

Flenken! Only lucid when it comes to food, which I certainly can relate to!

Silver had such a huge impact on Avlis in such a short space of time, mostly down to Lyc's exemplary roleplay.

Ang is a great character, charismatic and roguish, yet concealing a much darker side than he portrays to the outside world.  Most definitely NOT stupid evil.

Ang's player always amazes me with his level of creativity, intrigue and fun! Always a blast to play with.

I just met Flenken recently, but instantly could see what an incredible role player he is.  Two thumbs up!

It's PC's like Miriel who make Avlis such a vibrant place. Miriel is always there to keep the IC flow of information going by either detailed posts or personal meetings. RPing with her is always easy and never boring. Well done, Hamlet.

It's funny how such an obviously crazy and chaotic guy like Vrosh can play his Justicar so damn well. Richance Weller is the perfect Solider of Toran. He always makes me smile, even when he's serious!

I suppose all I can say is congrats all! :2thumbs:
...and wonder how close it must of been to get a tie for first and third and a five-way tie for fifth.
...and that I was party responsible for that. :D
Permanently confused.

Thanks guys, and congratulations to the deserving winners. I play Avlis for several reasons, but the playerbase is what brought me back and kept me here. I'm glad people enjoy Silver, but she's a product of all the cool characters she's met and variously befriended, helped, hindered and antagonised. The last few months have been an absolute blast - long may it continue.

You rock harder than this little guy. :cooler:

Wow.

Well... I can honestly say that out of this list, I've played with everyone on it, voted for almost all of them for RPOTM at some point, been heavily influenced by many of them, and the two I voted for won something for RPOTY. We've got Lawful and Chaotic, Good and Evil, and Neutral all represented there. Each of those characters is distinctly different from the other, and it's a pretty good representation of Avlis as a whole.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote, and to write comments. The comments are my favorite part of when the results come out each month, just because they give a nice glimpse into how people see a character and their development over time.

When I rolled up Flenken almost 2 years ago, it was more or less to try my hand as a mage. I'd always played the beefy fighter type, or a rogue, but never had the patience for playing a wizard. I also decided at the time to make him a "secret alt" for 2 reasons...one reason was to just play him without any distraction and dump the character if I didn't like it. Micah, Nob, Ensoleille, Cougar, Maxinion and others helped me learn the ropes of playing a wizard, and I came up with the character concept while eating a cupcake at lunch.

The other reason was a bit of an experiment, to see how people I had played with would react to the "newbie" without knowing it was me (to avoid getting stabbed :P). For the most part, things went as I figured. People were still generally helpful and fun, and if anything it renewed my interest in Avlis just as it was beginning to run dry. Also Spool and Sapperken helped me out with the Fatespinning path which really defined who Flenken turned out to be, and opened some really cool opportunities to RP with different characters. You people all rock like Def Leppard in the 80s.

-Grunt/Flenken

P.S. Pike can have the Queen crown, she's the best. Besides, it'll mess up my hair :D

Thaylis Beign: Morgan, did you cast recitation?
Morgan Thornheart: Yes
Thaylis Beign: *nods*
Morgan Thornheart: Aarilax blesses you all. Now get the fuck out of here.

Heh, I think having that as a concern qualifies you as the queen and I'm more than willing to hand the crown over to you :)

Like Grunt said, I'm ecstatic about the spread. Everybody up there is playing a unique and memorable character, and Kassha and I gossip about all of you when we go out :)

Not to just ride Grunt's coattails, but again, thanks to everybody who voted and especially everyone who commented! (My favorite: "Its more fun to annoy Hyacinth Pike than any other character on Avlis.") These are always a hoot to read and it's especially gratifying to see people who've put their votes in for the other three or four people in a spread of fucking awesome that you had to cut down to just two votes.

And as far as Hy specifically, I think it's really telling that a lot of the comments put her up next to somebody evil. Without the guys and gals out there putting in long hard hours as villains and crazies, Hy wouldn't be even a tenth as interesting. I owe y'all a huge thanks, both for the conflict that defines the character, and for putting up with all the LG :) Here's to a diverse community where you can go around playing who you like!

Rock!
