New Wilderness Hak

Post by Belasco » Tue Apr 01, 2008 8:41 pm

Thanks to Madk@'s ambitious pursuit of excellence we are proud to announce a new hak is needed for the wilderness server.

jxp_forest

You can find it HERE

A huge thanks to Madk@ for this an all the other behind the curtain things she does :respekt:

Note: If you have the Visimontium haks you won't need to download anything new!

This hak should also be available on my Mirror - see the link in the Wiki.

Edit - I don't see it there, unless it is part of another file. Please let me know if it is not available on the Mirror and I will add it. :?

Since I can't edit, I'll spam. I think it's in here:

http://www.phersey.co.uk/avlis/downloads/JXPHak.rar

Bottom line, if you've been to Visi in the last year or so, you're probably ok and don't need to download anything new.

The worst part about it was scratching my head all day wondering what was so funny about the link post, since I already have it... until I finally looked at the url. First April 1 joke I fell for this time and I did it to myself. Still haven't seen it even. :datz:

Did the addition of this hak cause the trees in the forest tilesets to not fade? The User Options to hide the second story tiles doesn't affect this anymore. Is there any way to make them fade again so they don't block the view?
Thanks

They're supposed to block the view.....better get used to having your camera down low.

It does seem to in some places but you do have to go in a little bit closer with the camera. I love the new hak and the minor changes it brings to the forest. Right from the start, the foresty areas feel more foresty now (*makes up new words!*). Good stuff!!

"..the camera...closer...in some places"
and
"Good Stuff!"

What's not too like?!

Why is blocking the view a good thing? If the game was designed as a first person shooter and I was supposed to see through my character's eyes then that would be fine, but it is not.

Is there a way to make the trees fade as they are supposed to?

I feel you GunnJ... it does make the game much more beautiful yes, but it does make it harder to play.

Its all good with me either way, I always enjoyed the forest in Visimontium far more than the TNanshi, but I also understand how it takes some time to get used too.

I've not found a way, and don't believe there is one. I've not found the appeal of it myself, but enough people seem to. I just changed the view point to....follow cam, or whatever it's called, and hoped I didn't turn around too often during battle.

If I find it too annoying (which means I'll have to login at some point to see it) I guess I'll simply have to change the hak so to that trees shows up as 3 feet tall wire frames.

If anyone finds a way to turn this off, I sure would like to know. I cannot see things half of the time. I cannot find transitions and get DPd a lot because I am trying to get to an angle where I can see something. It does look nice if I want to stand still and look at the trees, but if I am going to do that then I will just walk out in my back field and enjoy the real thing. ;)

I try to drop down to my characters point of view, but I have bad motion sickness and this really bothers me. I really don't want to have to take a dramamean so that I can play Avlis. lol

Anyway, if someone does find a way to turn this crazy thing off, please post it here. Thanks. *goes to move tree limbs out of his way* ;)
I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello?), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice-mail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

Yeah, POV for someone with motion sickness (like myself) who plays a monk (like myself) and has either a choice of throwing up on their computer or not seeing anything (like myself) really takes something away from the game. I run around with my finger on the tab key as it is. That and my character's fascination with boobs might give my wife the wrong idea if she walks in while my perv of a monk is looking down Sarrena's cleavage...

Not to sound unappreciative, because believe me I know developers do this out of the kindness of their hearts but I never had any difficulty imagining I was in the forest before the view blocking change. I would love to be able to turn this effect off, as well.

You're not helping, Ihht. :P

I do love several things this hak offers, like the extremely cool bridges shown in this pic. If I were building any new areas I would certainly work both of those into the area somehow.

But the blocked view is pretty bothersome. :?

I never noticed it myself, and I zoom around like crazy with the 2nd story always set to display.

I can tell you that it wasn't intentional!

I have the same problem. That new hak literally makes me a bit nauseous while running thru the forest. I agree that it adds some beautiful scenery in some areas, but it causes a playability issue with at least some of us.
