So far, I have that they are Elves (with wings of course) and their Deity is Cha'reth. I am assuming they are likely to be predominantly CG? They are likely to be gentle and caring - and not too keen on Drangonari.

Do they have any special restrictions on colouring or abilities please?

Any special preferences for Class - maybe Cleric or Druid - or even Mage?

I plan to make one of these as soon as I get home this evening (stupid work) - I would prefer that he or she does not stick out like a sore thumb due to an inappropriate selection of details. :?

The post there covers all the above questions, I think.

And a reminder: no Avariel or Drangonari can fly. NONE. The wings are wholly ornamental. :D

Don't worry, it's still very special for them... and anyhow, they are the ones who brought the Avariel back, which is what earned them the wings. So they can look at the new PCs with pride. :)

Still has the only HUMAN PC with wings. :D

w00t, my first contribution goes live!!!!

:D

NightHawk4, from a mechanics POV the Avariel are just elves, so the favoured class is Wizard, they can become AA's and just get the standard elven stat adjusts, no restrictions on colouring or abilities (from an AutoBic perspective) but having a green skinned Avariel might not be viewed favourable by the team

Thanks guys - very helpful. I wouldn't want a green-skinned Avariel
Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.

Soo... If people want IG explanations as to why they can't fly, they can say they lost a big chunk 'o' wing in a battle against a crop rat when they were little and are so off balance they can never fly again?

Or were the wings there from birth, and just useless decoration?

just useless decoration

There are cool scripts that alow winged creatures to jump-fly from point to point like with Dimension Door, just different animation (you fly up and then land, reflex save to land good or fall to ground), to bad that have not been addet.

There's an IG explaination that has to do with the Gods who were involved... see Orleron's discussion above. Drangonari with wings are EXTREMELY rare...( only 1 PC Drangonari has wings, and very few NPC's); Avariel's racial ability to fly was lost due to a few reasons, including it being part of the conditions for removal of their curse, IIRC. However, they still have wings, are born with wings, and every Avariel has wings. :)

Regardless, neither race will EVER be able to fly again. :) So, in the case of Drangonari, I believe they are a mark of status; for Avariel, they are part of who they are. Regardless, Avariel wings are beautiful.

Not to be rude, but did you maybe read the thread I linked to in that post? I did explain all of this there.

Or tygermoon knows all the details pretty well, since she was one of the core players who brought the Avariel back and knows why they and the Drangonari cannot fly. :)

Nice!
Always consider alignment as a tool, not a straitjacket that restricts the character.

Stupid?

Post by denumbramon » Sat Feb 04, 2006 3:02 pm

I made an Avariel, ok so far, my name changed to STUPID what the hell is this?

It's the creator of Autobic's sense of humor. When something is not correct on the character after it is autobic'ed, it renames the character "stupid cheater." Avlis did not create this system, we imported it. You may have made mistakes with the stats or might have made a character with the same name as another character in your vault. ~CPU

No, once you use elf as the base and the golem to convert it to a new subrace you can no longer take an elf-specific PRC like archane archer.

Yeah, what usually happens is that you get an intelegence change based on the subrace. For instance, the subrace gives you a -1 to intelegence which happens to drop you to the next category (e.g. INT 14 (+2) drops to INT 13 (+1)) and then when you assign skill points you have too many before the conversion.

I found the easy way to solve this is to not use all your skill points when you create the character at first level... its the safest method to making sure you don't use too many. The other way to do it is to do the math up front and calculate it all out.

except thats not true for avariel and you can take AA
Psyco wrote:you roll up an elf, talk to the golem, let him turn you into a pile of little elf pieces and you will be a winged avariel, yes.

And in this case you are still eligible for arcane archer.

I remember back when the changeling race was first added... everyone wanted one to try out... why not? After awhile, people settled back in by either going back to a previous character or some did actually stay with the new race. All I can say is Kudos to the team for another great feature in Avlis! woot!
