i'm planning on being either a human or an elven ranger and the holy warrior....avenger...

do i have to join a certain group if i'm human or vice versa elf???

Nah, read a little of the history and the like, but otherwise mostly it is up to you. IC choices might limit you in some regards, but mostly all is acceptable. If planning to become an avenger, make sure you read the requirements first, and contact someone within the correct organisation to help you out with your training.

i can't find the requirements...all i know is that i have to worship the one god and that's it. is avenger race specific or what???

That is a good place to start. Have you tried searching the forums using the search tool located at the top? I ran a quick search on avengers and got way too much information for myself. Might be an idea to so the same, certainly some useful tips there about the sort of groups and people you would want to meet.

If still having trouble send me a PM and I will try and help some more, but that search tool is great, gives you history from years ago that can help you flesh out your character in many ways (just be careful to use it appropriately).
