Invisible Inventory...

Post by Jo' d » Mon Jun 28, 2004 1:50 am

Greetings all...
Not sure where to plug this question/problem in as when I tried the Bug Report I got an error message (after multiple attempts), go figure the bug report is bugged....(at least for me it was).
The Problem....
'Bruk' the low level Half/Ogre died, and it was late and I had not the energy to make it back to recover his gear. NP, I'll get it tomorrow. Fast forward to the next morning and I go to get his gear and no body! Thinking his body had been looted (cursing under my breath) I proceeded on with his life...but when I had the opportunity to check his inventory (I had just picked something up) it appears as if he has some of his affects....now Im totally confused. As the day went on and I tried to replace his missing gear and would occasionally try and place things in specific locations in his inventory only to find that I was not allowed to use some slots(?????) as it appeared that there was something there, though I could not see it.
Fast forward again, I finally called upon the gods (DMs) to aid me...and after a brief exchange was told it was a bug and that I should take care to not use the invisible gear for fear of disrupting the server. Not to worry I could in no way access those slots. 'Bruk is now residing as a guest in the DM's hideout until such a time as someone looks at his bic file(?) Did I say that correctly?
In any case, I'll not be using him until I get the OK from the gods....but be warned, he is an irrascable fella, and not likely to sit still and out of trouble for a long period of time. He is prone to mischief when idle for long (INT bonus -2). So in the interests of your safety while in the'hideout', dont make him wait to long. And if you do see him....feed him...he gets cranky when hungry.
If this is in the wrong forum, feel free to relocate it...sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks,

Jo'd

The old "Bug Report" forum is now closed and locked (that is why you could not post there). All new bug reports should be reported using the "Bug Tracker" (link at top of page).

I had the exact same problem. Resolved when I died again and all my items were lost. Go oout and get killed, see if that helps.

As for your "bug".

First of all. If you die, your belongings are dumped onto the corpse for you to pick up at your leisure. However, if the server resets before you retrieve your items then, the next time you log onto that server it automatically gives you all of your things back (they were stored in the database). This is just a "player-friendly" thing to avoid the Team getting hundreds of restore requests etc. when they lose everything.

You should have seen a heap of the yellow "system" text as you logged onto the server and it gave you your things back.

However, it seems that you have a corrupted item in your inventory. I had a similar thing a while back (the infamous "Sparkling Shortsword" problem). It caused exactly the problem that you are seeing. Did you have one of these swords by the way? It maybe something else. It happened to me when Avlis was updated to use the CEP hak.

Raise your problem on the bug tracker and wait for help from the Team. You may need as restore, but even this may not be good enough, because you don't know for certain which item is corrupted, and when you obtained it. BTW, did you notice any strange behaviour with your inventory before this death? Maybe it was on one of your last inventory pages, and you didn't notice?

Thanks for the answers & the questions....
Did you have one of these swords by the way?
I do not know what swords cause the prob, I did have a 'magik' Bastard sword however and that was one of the missing items.
...did you notice any strange behaviour with your inventory before this death?
I noticed nothing unusual, which is not to say that there wasnt, just didnt notice any.
Go oout and get killed, see if that helps.

If the DM's release him from their company, I am willing to try this....
All new bug reports should be reported using the "Bug Tracker" (link at top of page).
Tried that one multiple times...error msg reads...Query failed : You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'd'' at line 1. I dont have a 'clue' as to what that error msg is telling me to do. I wouldnt know an SQL if it came up and bit me on the arse....

Once again thanks for the moral support, 'Bruk' still standing by...but I think he ate a chair already...sorry.
