Area transitions disappear

I'm not posting this in the bug forum because I don't think it's Avlis related but I'd like to know. Has anyone ever had a problem with area transitions disappearing when they are playing on-line even though the rest of the game appears to carry on. I ask this because today I encountered this happening when I was in Ferrell.

At the time I was being chased by 3 nasty trolls who were, to be frank, beating the sh!t out of my crap girl sorcerer. As usual her favourite tactic was to try and damage things with a couple of spells then, when that fails, run like hell through as many transitions as she can. Alas, all the area transitions vanished! She ended up running round and round in circles until, thinking the server had died, I logged out.

It was only afterwards that I thought "Hold on, the trolls were still chasing her... how could the server be dead?"

Can anyone enlighten me? Tell me I was imagining things? Help explain what the heck was going on?

i have had that happen to me before, but it's usually been at a time when there was noticable lag occuring...

It has happened to me a few times as well, and it always seems to occur when there is a lag. You can sometimes get around it if you know where the transition is by using the key movement to run over the area.

Thanks guys, but it was for a good 3 or 4 minutes at two transition points... *frowns*... still lag?

Quite possibly still lag. If you totally lag out and drop from the server it can be a couple of minutes before your computer realises it hasn't recieved anthing from the server.
