Selecting different HAK packs

Post by Kandi_Nulein » Fri May 22, 2009 3:22 pm

I've spent a bit of my afternoon playing around with the toolset having looked through the tutorial 'videos' made by a person called Maximus. All very easy and straightforward, the tute shows you how to add custom haks... edit module/custom content then add the haks.

Yet when I go to do this there aren't any haks to select from the pop up menu but Tlk files.

I've searched until my eyes have bled. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I'd love to at least have some pretty tilesets so I can start off my player house and not those God awful basic tiles you can make a 'spit-and-sawdust' inn room from.

Thanks a million to whoever helps!

That's odd. If you've been playing on Avlis, you should at least have the Avlis haks available. There should be two drop-down lists, one underneath the big blank "included haks" list box and one for TLK files. Did you look at both drop-downs?

Is this on the same computer you use to play on Avlis?

Obviously NWN has been upgraded a few times since those tutorials were done. Although not labelled the HAKs, as you so rightly pointed out, are in a drop down/up box!

So let me see if I understand what you're asking.

You've got your module open, and chosen Edit, then Module Properties, then the Custom Content tab.

If you click on the down arrow to the left of the Add Button, just above the "Check for Conflicts" button, and nothing is listed in that drop down menu??

Like Stebby asks, are you using the Toolset on the same computer that you play Avlis? Or do you have NWN loaded on two separate drives, like the C and D drives, but only have the haks downloaded to C and you're running the toolset from D?

But... Here's the thing I need to point out. Unless you're building a house for Visimontium, none of the haks that Avlis uses have any different interiors. And like it says under the Player Housing rules, "Player housing may only use the haks and content that are currently on each server. New haks will not be added for any housing."

PH Rules found here: viewtopic.php?p=438746

Now with that said, when 1.69 update went in several interior tilesets were added. The grey/tan castle interior with all the celtic knotwork everywhere, the city interior with celtic rugs and different wall color, or even the fort interior could be interesting, though I don't think the barrows interior would be very good for your particular character.

Then there are the new floor and wall placeables that Bhudda made, which are included in the latest Avlis hak, those are very nice. If you want to see an example, check out the Blandenberg Town Hall. Not the stairwell everyone appears in but the Town Hall itself, through the door to the north.

Glad I could help. Happy building (once you recover from your bass-beating  ).

Cheers,

I've managed to add the haks but unless I'm missing something everything looks the same as the basic tilesets. I'm not after building anything out of this world (suddenly realised what I'd typed there! It's been a very long afternoon)

All I'm after is a setting for a cottage in the woods. I don't want bare wooden floors, nor do I want the annoying crappy furnature that seems to be defaulted with some of the tiles. I don't envisage Kandi sat in front of the fire in an evening where she's not adventuring using a washing board and wringer mangle!

Obviously I have all the haks, some from Hala too which won't be usable on Avlis. I am using the same machine I play Avlis with. I thought of using a castle interior but it doesn't quite fit with the cottage in the woods scenario, and the nearest to palacial I get for the bedroom is the bordello tile...some would say that was quite fitting but seriously...how do you builders maintain your sanity? oo8) oo8)

I'm on my 3rd double Jack and calling it a night.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I'll revisit this particular nightmare after my final exam next week. I should have two months to wreck even more braincells over this...

I've just taken a peek at Blandenberg's town hall as you suggested Marleh...very nice eye-candy. Just what I am looking for, elegant but not gaudy, heck even the jail cells looked nice.

My congratuations to whoever built it!!

The floor and wall hangings are brillant, even some of the door designs...geez I'm starting to sound like an interior decorator from an afternoon programme on Channel 4.

RE: Player Housing rules found here (and a player maintained version here), per section 1.21, you should set up your base mod to have a list like this (any extra server specific haks going at the bottom of the list, after universalhak_5_0).

Once you have that set up, you will see all the available Avlis tilesets when you create a new area in that mod, and all the custom stuff like placeables in the palette (remember to check the custom tab for everything there). Save a copy of it to reuse any time you make something new, so you don't have to redo this all again (until there is a hak or tlk change).

*You can also export your character and test it in that mod without it looking messed up, though it doesn't have all the server-side scripts and fun stuff.

And as far as the designers of places in Avlis go (both players and team builders), I'm still amazed at what people can do with different tricks. We got a great new bunch of things to work with when 1.69 and the new haks came in, but people have been squeezing everything they can get out of what was available in the building palette for years. We have many creative people here who turn the basic stuff they have to work with into art. :cooler:

Yeah I have to agree here. I went for a wander around the Temple of Kelvos in Mikona the other day. They have a garden area with trees and what have you this is literally jaw dropping. It's like a visit to Kew Gardens.

Just noticed post 100...no better way to celebrate triple figures than with a rave!
