Metal colours after new install on vista pc.... bug thing...

well hello then...

I have switched the NWN game to my new on Vista running pc.. now the thing is.. I have no skills with a pc what so ever and it now happens that when I run the game everything appears the same as befor, though my character is visialized in all metal colours... so the game doesn't pick up the colours of Rye's armour...

please can anyone tell me how to make this normal again...?

an please try and explain is as easy as possible.. for I have not much skills and am only trying to understand this vista programe.. and that's dificult alone for me... :S

I talked to Mhog'ar ingame and he told me that I should try and change something in a Ini file... now I did configure the game after I ran it.. you have the option to optimize the way your pc is running the game.. well I scanned it and saved the outcome... however.. that didn't help... also Mhog'ar said something about my new pc using dual core chips.... I have no clue but might that be something there...

please if there is someone with a slight idea on what it could be...

I would love to run NWN as I did on my old pc....

Since it is only your armor that is messed up, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is a corrupt hak. I'd bet on the cepanatomy.hak if that is the case. Try downloading the CEP haks again. http://wiki.avlis.org/Needed_files

I'm also assuming you have tried with an empty override folder if you normally have things in there. There were some color overrides tossed around a while back that could mess it up, among other things. Try emptying it out first before downloading the whole CEP again.

I have a Intel (r) 82945G Express Chipset Family with a driver version of 7.12.10.1255...

not that I know what it all means.. though Ed tried to help me out with this as well.. he said I should try installing drivers.. so I tried.. but man this new vista is hard to learn.. and them sites don't make it easier.. I am a complete nobody when it comes to pc's.. so...

I think the grafic card is one placed on the motherboard.. so intergrated..

and if I search for any undates.. the sites don't come up with any... they do for the whole part except for the Family bit at the end.. so I installed that but... hmm *holds up his shoulders and rubs his chin*.. I think I am more leaning to buying a new grafic card and add it to the hardware... might that work..?

oh and Smeec..? I it's the floor of the LeOr server as well... as do all the NPC's and some water features... but I will give it a try.... so thanks for that..

Alright, try this.

Scroll down until you see Jason Barlow's post, and download the file. Follow his instructions, which are easy peasy so I copied them here - "Simply download the file and unzip it to your //NeverwinterNights/nwn/data directory."

If this does not work, then it very well may be a problem with your graphics card. I suggest reading through some of the bioware suggestions with Vista graphics card drivers.

Turn your graphics setting down. Way down. If you are using an integrated graphics card, you are most likely taxing it pretty heavy just with Vista.

I don't know about all that. My system is solid as a rock on Vista. It's the fact that s/he doesn't have a dedicated graphics card that killing the system. It says it will take your ram to use for graphics, but some things get higher billing, namely the OS. Long and short is, use XP with that system, or get a vid card, or upgrade to a better system. Since it's a new system, you can probably fix all this by getting a cheap ($100 US or so) vid card. It won't fly around the room on command, but it'll play NWN.

Well now I tryed both the Idea's of Marleh and Loki70.. the filed download was allready in that directiory but I replaced it with the new one any how... but alas... and downtuning the grafics doesn't work it only makes the screen darker and less interresting but doesn't take the metal colours away..

though I zoomed in on Rye and at fully zoom in.. it showed the colours of Rye's suit in the right colours but still the head from Rye was in metal once... seems it is a texture grafic bug after all..?

any how I desided to buy a new grafic card since the old geforce 4 I had didn't work on my motherboard....

does anyone know how I can look up the type and serial number of the motherboard...? so I can go to the shop and get one that fit's it..

Turn off character shadows. If the graphics are just coming out as big blobs of white, that generally fixes the issue.

well I got myself a new grafic card.. and... things are working wonders.... the new Geforce 8600 GTS 256 mb is running smoothly...

and only 65 euro to fix the problem..

I can now watch all your characters in there full collour and the bottom of Avlis in LeOr and other servers will be nice and green again just how they are suppose to...

I am very glad...

now a new Office paket to do my study properly and the new PC will be in maximum drive..
