Book Shelves

Post by astoroth » Wed May 07, 2003 5:20 am

When I put bookshelves in my college, I find when I play test it, it obviously drops standard NWN books in there. Do I need to place a custom script to have it put AVLIS books in there, because obviously when the college is up and running, people will not want NWN books appearing.

You dont want ANY books randomy appearing in a bookshelf!

Just kill the treasure script for the bookshelf. Write into the comments that it should get persistant...

...Vanor should be able to answer that: Is ANY kind of treasure script on an item allowed? My guess is NO!

This is the problem with the main Library. I wonder how much then, persistant book shelves would cost? And as script that "strips" them from the player when he tried to leave the college?

Since you can read books in place you could just prevent books taken from it in the first place (they'd pop back into the shelf)... If it also is a persistant bookshelf you then could just drop books into it and they'd stick to the bookshelf.

Medieval libraries used to chain their books (at least until Gutenbergh invented the letter print). They also had some restricted access. Not everyone got access to one.
I know you intention for the library is to make it public.

The script i mentioned above could also allow books taken from a bookshelf if you carry a special item (like a library pass or something like it - or a key that would allow you to unlock a book from the shelf). Since such passes are given out individually you can at least control who should be able to unlock a book... well but if the book key gets stolen... hehe would be nice for rping....

I thought of that, similar to Persistant Merchants when you scroll through the items on Appraisal mode.

But for ambiance, I wanted people to be able to sit down on the tileset chairs (which I made usable) infront of the fireplace and "read" their book.

Ed: Oh and there is a restricted access area, where I keep the Plotline books and things Ive found through my gaming, that are interesting.
