Questions for someone that has been around a bit

Post by SmurfyBlues » Tue Sep 21, 2004 2:03 am

Hi all,

I am new to the server and actually just got my application accepted today.

i haven't been able to get into the server yet, but that is a different topic =)

My questions are kind of related to the server and what is has to offer and what people in the server do. I am sure these answers are somewhere, but this site is so big that I haven't ventured around enough to find it, if someone wants you can answer my questions with links. Thanks in advance for the help!

1) What tradeskills are in place? What tradeskills are the most used by players currently on the servers of Avlis? What cities are the best for players that want to do tradeskills? Is fletching (arrow making) easy available?

2) How many players does the server allow on at any one time (general estimation is fine because of the different servers)? How many players are usually on a server at any given time?

3) Which city is better/more fun to start in; Elysia or Le'Or'T'Nashi?
and why?

4) Please put these in order of what players on the Avlis Servers usually do.
- Hunt (for xp)
- Tradeskills
- Sit and Roleplay (ie - in a tavern)
- Boss Hunt (for items)
- Hunt (for character development/adventure)

Thanks to everyone that puts in their 2 cents! =)

Sincerely,

The new guy

There is mining, alchemy, herbalism, weaponsmithing, carpentry, armorsmithing, tailoring, brewing, and jewelcrafting. I believe cooking is in the works, too (I probably missed something there; someone add it). The hardest ones are jewelcrafting and tailoring, simply because those do not have guilds (at the moment, anyway), and so you have to either apprentice yourself to someone, or work out the recipes on your own (which is quite difficult).

Server "allows" 64, but they generally crash well before that. ;-)

"Average" doesn't really cover anything. Deglos is probably the least-popular server. For the most part, it depends on time of day, and whether or not there are any DM quests going on.

You'll get totally different answers from different people. Personally, I like Mikona the best. I used to have one character based in Mikona, and one based in Elysia, but, frankly, Elysia is just too damn sickeningly good. It was giving me cavities. A lot of players refer to it as "care bear land." Though, it's one of the most popular servers, which says something for it. Clearly, a lot of people like it. It's completely based on personal opinion, and, personally, most of my time there is spent terrorizing it. ;-)

- Depends on the character

COmpletely and totally. Some people spend a lot of time crafting. Some people never go into combat. Others frequently go into combat, and like spending their time out adventuring with other people. Totally depends on the player/character.

3) Baalysia or course. It is everywhere you want to be.

4) Pay homage to the man, the icon, the legend, Sarg Baal of the M'chek Horde!

That is my opinion, not nessasarily anyone else's opinon, might just be, but that would be a coincodence, and damnit, sometimes the crap I write is not even my opinion either.

1) What tradeskills are in place? What tradeskills are the most used by players currently on the servers of Avlis? What cities are the best for players that want to do tradeskills? Is fletching (arrow making) easy available?
Fletching is quite easily available - as for cities to craft in... your mileage will vary. Obviously, Deglos is probabably the best for mining, but most servers generally have a decent spread of craftability.
Most used tradeskills is a bit... iffy. Generally though the most successful crafters tend to be alchemy and healing item centered, as there is always a demand for potions and healing kits.
Other very high profile jobs - mainly because they're rare and completely depend on the playerbase's purchasing - tend to be liquor brewing and tailoring.
Smiths tend to be more difficult to find, at least for me, because smithing involves a lot of materials gathering, etc, and a lot of raw strength. Most of the times those with said strength are killing monsters.
2) How many players does the server allow on at any one time (general estimation is fine because of the different servers)? How many players are usually on a server at any given time?
Generally, the two most popular servers - M'chek and Elysia, usually have at least 20 people - this has been climbing to around 40 on each during peak periods.
The other servers tend to have anywhere from 10 - 20 on peak periods.
3) Which city is better/more fun to start in; Elysia or Le'Or'T'Nashi?
and why?
Ferrell and Mikona are also alternates to this; both are still quite decent for new characters. Ferrell is also rather close to the popular Elysia server, and tends to experience less lag - except on trade fair days.

As for those two choices... it depends on how you see your character. Le'Or has an abundance of high quality exotic goods, and tends to be more conservative and pro-nature.
Elysia tends to be somewhat more cosmopolitan and multicultural - or "carebear land", as Keflex puts it. Either is a good choice, but I got my start in Elysia.
Both Elysia and Mikona do suffer from lag spikes during peak hours - this is being worked on by the Team.
4) Please put these in order of what players on the Avlis Servers usually do.
Again, totally contextual, but my character tends to:
- Sit and Roleplay (ie - in a tavern)
Then I'll suggest something to a group of people and:
- Hunt (for character development/adventure)

Also, remember that Avlis is dynamic - that means the actions you take can affect the whole world. So I encourage you, go out, seize the initiative. If nothing interesting is happening, make something interesting happen. You'd be surprised, sometimes.

Oh, and as a final note:
Welcome to Avlis. :D

thanks you 2 for your input. It is greatly appreciated! And thanks for the welcome =)

i adventured around Elysia a bit, but it seems most of the "newie" FedEx quests were broken so i may make a different server my start.

Thanks again all

I think the fed-ex quests in Mikona work ok, and there is one that is a good place to start (ask around). Mind you, Mikona can be a bit unforgiving if you wander into the wrong place by accident. I'd suggest finding someone in the city who know the place fairly well and ask for some advice. You may even get a tour ! The downside to Mikona is that it seems to suffer most from lag at the moment.

oh and welcome .... hope you have fun !
