What I meant was more 6th level spells known, not cast per day. But I definitley use that trick when trying to buff up a party to give everyone a little lovin.PlasmaJohn wrote:Use the Silent or Still Spell metamagic feats, that'll use the next highest level slot (6th->7th), unless of course, you're already using metamagic...AUman wrote:Doesn't that suck?Spartan wrote: Please tell me a sorcerer can learn more than 3 level 6 spells....I'd even give up a 7th level slot to get another 6th.

This works for my character too (sorceress)Emprod wrote:kombinat wrote:Ioun stones would be great, they'd enable me to wear something other than INT-enhancing gear at times, except when resting..
Sure, rest with your ability boost gear on, cast eagles splendor or fox's cunning for a wizard, pop the ioun stone, and then switch out your boost gear for other things. You'll retain your bonus spells until next rest. Switch out your gear again before next rest, rinse repeat
Just had a chance to check it again. Rested wearing a helm of greater persusaion and a ring of +2 cha giving 23 cha overall. After rest checked I and I had 5 lvl 1, 5 lvl 2 and 3 lvl 3 spells. Cast my Ioun stone and THEN took off my ring of +2 cha. Only had 2 lvl 3 spells left. Does using an ioun stone use up a spell slot or something?
And again...
Just levelled up.
Rested wearing a greater helm and +2 cha ring.
Had 5xlvl1, 5xlvl2, 3xlvl3, 1xlvl4.
After activating my Ioun stone, but before removing the ring I lost a level 3 spell, but kept the lvl 4 space and kept 5 in each of lvl 1 and 2.
So, it seems using an Ioun stone takes up one of your available spells at level 3, which as it is my most useful spell slot (extended ghostly visage) is annoying, to say the least..

I'll check it now
<Fuzz> thankfully, no one quotes me
<GairusWHO> I think so... but don't quote me on that.
<NWDuneAuron> in other news, study proves studies don't prove anything!

FWIW, what's probably happening is that when you activate the ioun stone, your ability scores are getting recalculated and the game is realizing you have more slots than you should and dumping one. Not knowing your level, Cha and the exact bonuses that the helm and stone are giving makes it hard to say for sure though.Fifty wrote:And again...

I have a cha of 19, I was doing this wearing a greater helm of persuasion (+2cha) and my Common House ring giving +2 cha. The stone also gives +2 cha.
I think that what you are suggesting is that activating the stone resets my cha back down below a level that would increase my number of lvl 3 spells, before recalulating back up with all items, but with a base cha of 19, this would not be the case.
Mind you, next time I level up I may well add Eagle's Splendour back into my spell repertoire. Now that I have a decent number of levels for the turn/level effects, wearing Cha gear to rest then replacing it with a single spell and putting back on my combat buff gear may be an effective strategy.

Ok, that sounds really wonky. With a Cha of 19-23, you should get one extra level 3 spell, with a Cha of 25 it should be two. So if you have one extra level 3 spell, then you're gettting what you should - if you have no extra level 3 spells then that seems like a bug and we might be able to take a look at the ioun stone code, because I think it's in a script.
