Halfing Builds?

Post by Xeo » Mon Nov 17, 2003 11:23 am

Hi guys weekend is over and i have been exprimenting (With NWN! Not anything else! :P )

And i know i have placed a few posts on the topic of a drawfern Wizard and something which i find a interesting idea.....

BUT

I decided to play a fightering type character over the week to see what it was like to slap a few goblins and orcs around....

As you might of learned by now that I am very into trying to do something a little different, not for anyone else but its my way of having fun.... 8)

So up came the character creation screen and i was looking at the races options....

i choose a halfling/Ranger....... Now i got to say i had sooooooo much fun with this character i got him up to lvl 9 so far on a weeks work by the expense of no communication with the girlfriend (Yesturday i was in so much trouble! )

But i would like to hear peoples thoughts on a Halfling build

Fighter Or a Ranger? or even a Cleric? (Me not like Rogues  )

That Little guy with a sword, which turns into a two handed one! :D (Great!)

And when serounded by orges and orcs, the little feller held his own and caused a good dose of damage.. 8) (Great!)

I admit he had some mid lvl gear on so that helped... But it was so cool watching the little guy KICK ASS!

I know i am a bit strange but i got 8 days to go untill SoU. Sorry i feel like a bit of a Noob asking questions all the time etc etc but i like hearing peoples views good or bad.

I know its up to me but i would like advice from experience players or even new players that have ideas etc etc.

Kind regards peps! :D :D :D

Halflings are not the best class to be a fighter in, but they can be fun - which is more important in my book :) A ranger is a good choice as these are generally not your standard tanks and the high dex is good. You could pick weapon finesse and dual-wield with your high dex. May look good, don't know whether it's very effective. A fighter/rogue may also be a good mix.

I was going to roll-up a gnome as a ranger, of course there aren't many gnome rangers around, so I guess he would be "The Lone Gnome Ranger". I almost did it just for the title - I may still do it ;)

PS: low strength and the weight carrying limitation may be a problem for a fighter class (all those heavy swords and axes and stuff)

    cool

Gnome Ranger... lol

Well at lvl 9 with a long sword and good armour, this halfing was taken on mummy warriors and Goul Lords no problem..

Its the High Dex that helps and halflings are tough and hard to hit..

Aslo they have a luck and accucey bonus.....
Well at lvl 9 i got there by not hanging around at the back of the pack!

;)

I've played both halfling fighters and rangers. They both work. In fact, just about any build can "work". Its more a matter of the RP concept. I for one like off the wall concepts. My currenct characters aren't such but I'm one who tries to match up races with classes they normally aren't good at, and then make them into an effective character in it.

One of the biggest strengths of the halfing as I see it is that you can multiclass into Rogue without any XP penalties for multiclassing. If I were playing a Halfing fighter, you could bet I'd throw a few rogue levels, but then, that kind of thing should be determined by your character concept.

Personally as a fighter, I"d make a dex based fighter, maybe with dual wielded kukris centered around critting as much as possible. I just don't find it feasible to play a STR based fighter as a halfing, but then I'm not a big fan of sacking my RP stats for the sake of having a high STR.

well, those are just my general thoughts on a making a halfing thats a little outside of what is typically made.

best of luck in it.

thank you for your reply, that was usefull info provided...

I am very on top of the character and RP element..

Its good too see here in the comunity that there is a strong RP following, As you might know that i was researching into Dwarfs and looking to do a class in Wizardry...... (8 Days SoU! Yeah!)

So i had time to think about what i am going to do, so thats why i was also looking also into halfings, so i have some options to me...

I agree 100% on Dex for a halfing if hes a fighter... Makes him harder to hit and helps the AC and also uses a Bow at distance before engaging in some good old fashing hack and slash tatics..........

Because my lvl 9 Halfing/Ranger is great fun so far............ Mmmmmmm got some thinking to do....

Cause i am swaying my thoughts for my halfing to live in the woods, so a ranger would make some style sense........ or not (Scratches his stubble chin in wonder.....

Kind Regards

Peps
