Hey there folks! Just wanted to give some quick updates for Avlis in NWN:EE

On the development side, the team is currently working on optimizing the experience (handling bugs with load time as well as server backend items) and ensuring our custom systems are functional before we proceed to a live beta for players. Once we are ready for beta, we'll let you know and post details on how to login!

We are pleased to let you know that we are almost ready to transfer to Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition. Our goal is to transfer fully to Enhanced Edition by late July.

As of July, we are running a NWN EE test environment feat. all Avlis servers. (Want to help out? Request a Quality Assurance Tester (QA) application!). The milestones of database migration are behind us. At present, verifying player identity, reworking DM tools, custom race selection, general Avlis feature testing, documentation drafting and more are keeping us busy. Therefore, our goal posts have moved. We will continue to communicate updates as we go along.

There are a couple of milestone events to hit, most of which are there such as a good database migration, a working process for migrating existing characters, and a few others. I think we're looking at having a couple of open testing weekends where we just open the dev environment up for a day or two and have people log in and just try stuff and report any issues without the need to formally join QA. Keep an eye out for posting and news but hopefully soon.

If you want to help out longer term beyond those open testing days, then joining QA as Void mentioned is a good option. Besides open random testing there are also more formal and specific testing of things whether it something new or just a bug fix.

Q: What happens after the Public OOC Beta ends (September 30th)?
A: Public access to our test environment ends. The non-EE Avlis servers are shut down, database migration takes place and the Avlis NWN EE servers go live. We are aiming for that same weekend (October 1st - 2nd) and will communicate any delays accordingly. We have notified the CoPaP world leaders on the CoPaP-Collaboration Discord server.

The Avlis Event DM Team has requested that ALL CHARACTERS please be moved to their respective CoPaP Servers ANY TIME ON WEDNESDAY, September 28th (litterally any time before Thursday the 29th.)


There will be a lot of plot happening this week/weekend so please do not wait until the last minute to move your characters, particularly if you want a really good IC reason why your character would stay on Avlis.

Please save yourself and us the headache of waiting longer.

SERVER MIGRATION TIMELINE

Q: When is the last time I can access Avlis on NWN v. 1.69?
A: The Last Stand event (calendar link). Event begins Saturday, Oct 01, at 9 pm US Eastern Time (countdown link). No Avlis servers on NWN v. 1.69 will remain up after the event finale.

Q: When can I access Avlis on NWN EE?
A: Hopefully by Monday, October 02nd. Database migration alone can take all day (the latest test run took 17 hours). We will communicate an update when ready.

Q: What do I need to copy from my NWN v. 1.69 installation?
A: [1] Your nwncdkey.ini file. [2] Character Journal .txt files in the "localvault" folder. As the name suggests, these are local files and are NOT saved server-side. You will need to copy them to your NWN EE installation location. [3] As well, we recommend that you copy your "portraits" folder.

Q: What about custom heads and voice sets (override folder)?
A: Content from the NWN v. 1.69 "override" folder, such as PC heads and voice sets, will NOT be needed on Avlis NWN EE. If you have already copied that content to your NWN EE installation location, please remove it to evade conflicts.

Q: I do not have the opportunity to log into the Beta testing servers. Is there anything I need to do, in order to access my Player Characters (PCs)?
A: As soon as the live servers are up, migrate your CD keys (follow the instructions on the Avlis Wiki, PM avliswebadmin if you are stuck).

Q: If I didn't play tonight and/or I didn't log off on Elysia, does that mean my character is dead?
A: Only if you want them to be! Otherwise, you may feel free to have them have escaped to Elysia in time to have arrived before the rest of everything became uninhabitable.


Q: If I didn't play tonight is it okay if I play on Saturday night?
A: Absolutely. Your character arrives in Elysia 'just in time' to join the rest of the survivors behind the wards. Game on!
