Ditto! Was just trying to figure out what time this afternoon's event is, and even after several minutes Googling, still not sure.

Try using "20 GMT to pdt" in a Google search, or whatever your timezone is (pdt is pacific daylight time for annoying DST).
It works amazingly well.

Try me!

And yeah, I still miss the old calendar doing it for me. :(

I forgot to mention that am and pm also works for time conversions (e.g., 8 pm pdt to edt), but since I can't edit my last post in the news forum, you get this one. It is very useful on a mobile device if you keep the Google input bar on your screen or use voice input.

Here's a link with more on how to use Google for converting times: Google Adds a Time Zone Converter

It is also available if you use DuckDuckGo or Wolfram Alpha.

  • The Portal Page is back for the silver theme; thank you!
  • If the Portal Page is live for the Dark theme, I can't tell as the formatting for Dark is .. weird?
  • I find the mobile version for Dark unreadable in terms of how it is formatted. I switched back to Silver for now.
  • Can we have other colors besides red/blue for Dark? they are ... uncomfortable.
  • No matter how many posts I read, my 'unread posts' count on the Portal Page (silver theme) remains at 1001 unread posts. (Edit: Resolved. Apparently I just had to mark enough forums as read that it dropped it back down to a 'normal' level)
Overall, I know many things were changed and improved. I'm sorry I'm still struggling with the new forums. Not entirely sure why other than 'none of the colors work for me' - I'm getting my first pair of glasses next week to help me with my headaches. Apparently my left eye decided it doesn't like computers anymore. Happily, that's fixable with glasses. Long live technology!

Hopefully that helps me with my current feelings of "ugh, I can't read these in any format right now" - I have a lot of forum work to do and I'm struggling to be motivated to do it as more than 10-20 minutes makes me wince.

/styles/black/theme/content.css

Code: Select all

/* Post body styles
----------------------------------------*/
.postbody {
	float: right;
	/*margin-left: -160px;*/
	width: 100%;
	position: relative;
}
For the black style, is it the portal commenting out the:

Code: Select all

/*margin-left: -160px;*/
It is causing the post body to appear under the left post profile stuff in every topic (like this one) in my normal Firefox and Chrome browsers now. The default /styles/prosilver/theme/content.css doesn't even have that, but Black normally does use it (going by the demo site version anyway). The only other element it applies to is is the "Keep The Lights On" section in the left column. That might need to be restricted with a

Code: Select all

#portal-left .postbody {
	margin-left: initial;
}
specifier in the /ext/board3/portal/styles/prosilver/theme/portal.css (inherited by Black), so the main one can be left uncommented.

-----

Also, whatever is replacing any URL here that uses the http://www.avlis.org domain is really getting annoying. It even redoes my link text so I can't point to things without code blocks like

Code: Select all

http://www.avlis.org/styles/black/theme/content.css
styles/black/theme/content.css < No BB-Code
styles/black/theme/content.css < url /url tags
styles/black/theme/content.css < url= /url tags

Sometimes I do want to omit it (like the links in this post above), but when I don't it is extremely frustrating. :grumble:

apparently the tweak to try to fix the black theme on mobile broke other stuff.. that's back to the way it was.

This might need to be reposted a few times when people wonder how to set DST times here. Something most people probably are unaware of is that the new phpBB automatically adjusts for DST. It needs one setting change by everyone to work though.

The setting is described here phpBB Archives - Re: automatic dst (if someone can find a better link, great!)
As david63 points out, user action is required after the upgrade to phpBB 3.1 to change their settings to make the new automatic DST feature work. We've made it part of the "announcements" we make when upgrading a forum to phpBB 3.1.

Part of the challenge is how phpBB presents the timezone information in User Control Panel->Board preferences (direct link is ucp.php?i=165) in the My timezone field. There are two elements to the setting. The first drop-down box shows a guess (based on JavaScript) of your timezone and then you need to select a country/city pair from the second dropdown that reflects your actual location.

The important user step is to set the country/city pair (2nd dropdown), which enables the automatic DST feature to work.
For me, it was set to UTC-7:00 for the timezone and also UTC-7:00 for location, which can't change it when DST ends. I switched the location to Vancouver (Washington, since they didn't have a BC one, but same thing) and it will now switch my time back to UTC-8:00 when DST ends later this year. Leave the actual timezone set to whatever your current UTC setting is (not what it is without DST).

It should be obvious if you set it incorrectly since there won't be any useful locations to chose from. :wink:
