Introducing the Lore Council

Post by Orleron » Thu Nov 30, 2017 5:54 pm

Hey Avlissians! Long time since I've posted here personally in the News. I have a cool announcement and a chance for at least one lucky player to get more involved in helping to create this continually evolving world.

The Lore Council (LC) is a new group of five people (me, Nob, Pleth, Ronan, and a Player TBD) whose job is to do several basic tasks:
1) Guide the lore development of the world's DM plots
2) Settle any discontinuities
3) Answer questions from Team Members and Players in areas where the lore is not clear and DM's do not know the answers.
4) Catalog/organize the existing lore on the forums that has been built up (lost?) over the years
5) Expand areas of Lore that when urgently needed

The LC is not Team, but rather a collaboration between me, The Team, and the Players for managing and organizing lore. So we need some help from people interested in that!

Are you fascinated by the flow of Avlis history?

Do you wish you could influence it without having to make a character and play for years and years?

Do your friends always use you as a resource for knowledge of Avlis lore?

Do you wish you could get involved without needing to know anything about coding, servers, toolsets, human resources, and all that other icky stuff? :P

If your answers are "yes", then you might be right for a seat on the LC. PM me if you want to know more and let's talk.

We also need other similarly-minded people who are interested in digging through forums for history on certain cities, countries, etc. so it can be arranged in timeline fashion. Again, PM me if interested!

Orl out...

What level of access would a player have to various forums to help them work? I considered trying to create my own sort of timeline and effort to gather and compile plotline posts, etc awhile ago but gave up because relevant posts recounting important events either appeared to not be available on public boards for PCs and exist either on private boards or DM boards and in some cases no record may exist at all.

I thought it would have been a good way to convey old plots and events to the current population in a summarized form ICly fitting Archibald's nature as a owner of a library and a scholar, but the lack of information made it a non-starter in the end.
Vetinari: I have noted before that you have a definite anti-authoritarian streak, Commander.
Vimes: Sir?
Vetinari: You seem to have retained this even though you are Authority.
Vimes: Sir?
Vetinari: That's practically Zen.

I’d be an intrested person in helping to preserve lore.
Then you must reconcile yourself to the fact that something is always hurt by any change. If you do this, you will not be hurt yourself.

Good question, yes, the candidate would need to be eligible for DM-level access to the boards.

We are taking on silverfields2 as the player member of the Lore Council. Congratulations to her and we look forward to working together.

The council is at 5 members and we are going to get to work. If any positions pop up in the future, I will be sure to let everyone know.

Just to clarify this for the future, as changes are being made as we speak.
Lore QA members will have access to Lore and such, but not DM access to administration stuff, like discussions, watchlist and non lore related things.
They will also have their own forums, will the DM staff to assist in hunting information, and getting it to the right place.

As krackq posted earlier, we are overhauling the forums as they stand, to ensure everyone can get to what they need, and not to what they dont.
