Ithilla Early Beta

Post by NCGrimbo » Mon Jun 12, 2006 1:18 am

Ithilla is now ready for a very early beta. It is currently running on a non Avlis server and local vault characters are allowed. So if you have a character on your local version, you can use that one or make a new one.

You will need to download a few haks that are rar'ed. Here's the FTP information:

Server: eberwein.isa-geek.com
Account: IthillaHaks
Password: hak4you

Here's the Ithilla connection information:

Direct Connect to: eberwein.isa-geek.com:5115
Password: IthillaBeta

Feel free to post comments, suggestions, etc here. Also, if you find any bugs or exploits, please let me know.

Unless a major, game ending bug is found, the server will be up until the end of June then it will be brought back down to fix the bugs found. Power outages, acts of nature, etc. may cause the server to go down since it is not on a UPS. Please do not report any "Server not found" errors. Just try again in an hour.

Wow, fun. :)

But is there a link for the hak? I don't know how to get it otherwise. Thanks.

edit: Thanks...that was easy enough.

Wow, this is really different. :P

I have a feeling it's going to take some getting-used-to.

A few small things:
I received an emote wand when I logged in.
The dracon voiceset seems...weak. Is that the one used in Kuras?
On the Weapon Merchant, when you ask to see his "other weapons," no shop opens.

Most importantly: I couldn't find any "docking" plank. There ~are~ "boarding" planks, but clicking on them does nothing. So, although I could assemble a ship, I couldn't go use it.

Edit: Aha. Once I add the ship to the Captain's symbol, then I can board it.

Bye, bye, Avlis:

I didn't really get the hang of it quickly enough...drifting in space, dead:

Some problems:
I found "A bright opening in the sphere" but it lead nowhere. I'm not actually sure it's supposed to, but thought I'd mention it.

I attacked a Pirate when I was in the battle area. He couldn't hurt me but was also invulnerable. I couldn't command my ship from then on, though, until I went invisible so that he didn't keep attacking me. Seems potentially problematic.

Also, no NPC's in the Abyss deathplane, so I couldn't get out of there.

if you have more then 10 strength, you get kind of shafted, since when you board the ship your strength gets set to 10, meaning you can carry up to 86 pounds of weight. So if you're carrying more then 86, you end up crawling through the stratosphere. :P

Second, I noticed a problem if you have multiple ships in your inventory, I had one of each ship and was trying to add my squid ship, but it would only show the frigate ship (despite the fact that only the squid ship was properly equipped).

After losing my first spelljammer battle horribly, I died and then recovered, I was able to run around a bit in space (didn't try any of the transitions though) and so I attacked the thing that killed me again, and it respawned my boat. Not sure if this is supposed to happen or not.

edit: oh, and can we get Deathplanes turned off for here temporarily for testing?

edit 2: I notice that when the battle has progressed and there is alot of wreckage on the field, it can be VERY hard to select ships and move around.

edit 3: I like the amount of time per turn, enough to make you have to think on your feet, but not so much that you're left without time to carry out your actions.

Also can we get the server transition spot shut off or post a temporary warning saying "don't go this way in beta"...I foolish wandered out of Toran Shaada only to tell me I was portalling to which I said...damnit, no! and then my computer crashed.

Not at this point. One of the areas that needs testing is the death planes. There are 12 total. :)

I have another good idea: Add an area where people can practice with spelljam battles before they really enter space. I think, because of the strange new system, many people will loose their first battle, and hance suffer great losses. Maybe its better if they can train a bit to get the hang of it.
