Info on me, and the state of Avlis
As many know by now, my twin sons were born this past July 29th. They were a little bit early, but mother and babies are all doing fine. There's a small laundry list of things with the babies that will need some minor medical attention over the next couple weeks, but all of it is fixable so far as we know, and it is likely that they will both grow up superbly.
In addition to that, I've started my new full time real job this past Monday, which marks the very first time since Avlis started that I have actually worked full-time. Being a graduate student gave me a lot of flexibility to watch the servers during the daytime, and to respond to people quickly. With this new job, that's not going to be a reality anymore. Couple that with the babies, and with the mortgage proceedings on the new condo we're trying to get, Orleron doesn't get any time for Avlis.
So, as you can imagine, I'm turning the day to day operation of Avlis over completely to the Team. We are lucky that we even have a team capable of running this place without me. In fact, they've been doing that on and off for the last couple months now. All we're doing this time is going a step further by enacting my almost-complete disappearance from the scene, and letting them run it fully.
For now, Jordicus will be the de facto head of the Avlis Team, though his leadership will include a good amount of advisement from the other major ranked Team members that you've come to know and love. This is your heads up, players! Sending me PM's has been pretty ineffective for the last couple months. (If anyone noticed that) Now, it will be even more useless, because I'm not going to be appearing on the boards much at all for the next indefinite period of time. fyi!
Having said all that, Avlis is still continuing to grow. "The Move" is going well, and our new site is nearing completion. Once that happens, all the regular plans that I've laid out before are slated to occur: new comuters coming online, new network architecture, new mods coming up. Also: less lag, faster machines, better overall performance.
You will be in some very capable hands!
Before I go, I will also let you know that Avlis will still need your voluntary financial support. Now more than ever. I'll be blunt. In order to pull off this move correctly, and in order to give you the performance needed to properly portray Avlis, we are going to need a LOT of money. Your donations have supported us well for 2 years now, and they continue to do so. However, our costs after this move are going to double, maybe triple. So to those who have continually supported us, I say thank you! To those who may have allowed the others to take most of the load, I am asking you to kick it up a small notch if you can. If each player somehow managed to donate US$5, we would be completely ok. So there's an estimate for ya.
Thank you all for the great time you've shown me while I was here, and thank you for all that you collectively taught me about people, life, and the world of gaming. I will treasure that knowledge forever.
In the future, if things settle down for me, I may be back in the driver's seat. Who knows? Until then, keep the world alive, and let your imaginations run free.
Sincerely,
--Orleron

Congratulations! Life marches on and takes us with it, so it is great you are being taken places you seem to want to go. Good luck with everything, best wishes for the kids and your wife and I hope your new job goes well too. (and I assume congrats on completing the PhD are in order too)
Hey, maybe you could sneak back occasionally under a secret ID and raise hell as a PC, if you do not do that already

Congratulations, bub!
Maybe we can have a celebration barbecue for when "The Move" goes down, and you can bring Aidan and bryce along.
Good luck.

I know if I was on the battlefield and I got hit by a pile of shit... I'd probably go home.

Congratulations, Orleron, glad to hear both Mom and kids (and Dad!) are going to be ok.
As for this place, as the team has said to so many who have gone for extended absences, Avlis will be here when you return, and we look forward to that day.

Someone once told me to "Never let them out number you." Well, I have three kids now, so I guess I blew it. But you, Orleron, you have a chance! Of course I guess with twins you could always say those count as one so that can kinda give you an out if you have any more.
Oh yeah one of the benefits that come with kids are the things you get to hear them say. For example (this just happened today) my oldest son (9) and his best friend were hanging out playing Pokemon on their Gameboys. Freind says, "I wonder who invented video games?" Son (again 9 years old) says, "I don't know. Probably someone who still lives with his mother."
Enjoy and congrats!
