Good job Jordicus :) heh I saw the words "server vault wipe" in the R&R forum and went "WUH OH!" Thanks for fixing things for folks in the least destructive way possible..

and thank heaven and the Team for regular character vault backups. It could have been WAY worse, folks.

It's all relative. Yes, this was disruptive to a lot of people, but the alternative was worse. :)

What a way for Jordicus to be welcomed into the hot seat, too.

Yep.... A big thank you for fixing things; it was just about unplayable yesterday for me. And a big thank you to the DMs, too, who are hard at work making up for the lost XP!

THANK YOU!

I had logged off with my char in Mikonia, after buyin the fare back and the captian wouldn't set sail, so I hung about till Elysia came back, logged on, walked half a screen and crash.

I may have lost XP and gold, and have to redo a few things, but I think you guys definately did the right thing with restoring the backup, as now I can play tonight, and not have to worry about another crash from a corrupt char logging on.

WELL DONE TEAM - THREE CHEERS!

Thanks for fixing this guys.

Bitching and moaning about lost XP/gold/items is fine.

Hopefully no one is seriously complaining about the team deciding to do this, cause clearly this would only be done if it was the only way to fix things.

Is it OK for us to hunt down those people with the corrupted charcter files that caused all of this to happen and kill them in-game, or would that be griefing

Jordicus, please provide us with a list of the culprits.

Thanks.

(That was a joke by the way, just in case any were wondering ;))

Hmm, what happens when people who were on another copap world come back to Avlis? I've just done that and, after a couple of tries, I now have the same bic as I had in Rockhome...but..what if thats a corrupt one? I didn't crash the server, so I assume its not?

Then we hunt you down and kill you

I reckon a lot of corruptions come from the "lvl 1 CE Barb scenario" where people log in direct when the servers are crashing/restarting/lagging like shite... but of course that is mere conjecture.

Due to this happening once before, I don't direct connect anymore, until I check via gamespy to see that the server is stable, cos I ain't waiting a damn week to get a restore!

You know what? I've only been on Avlis for around 3 weeks now (my first NWN PW experience), and in the last 2 days I've had the news that Orleron will be passing on the reins and then the server restore occured.

And you know what I say?

Thank you team. (and good luck Orleron)

Hey at least ya can't blame this one on the Malekites, although the slaughter of all that xp is quite invigorating!!

Oh well, beats the hell out of a vault wipe.

Sorry for the folks it affected though.Myself i was playing some of my other games ( Doom 3 roxxorz dewd!! ) this weekend, plus I have a touch of Avlis/NWN burnout and lack of character direction.

As someone else said it only took away character xp, not the experience of rp'ing with others. The former can be regained easily enough, the latter is priceless, and it'll be what we all remember when the leds go out on the servers some day, hopefully twenty years from now.

there may be a few characters that are still an issue. we'll fix those on a case-by-case basis

I have already pinpointed one and we are working to resolve that already. If you find that the server is crashing after you login, or you notice that the server has crashed repeatedly after a particular player logs in, please PM me with the info

I'm extremely happy about the rollback as well. My main got corrupted and she's supposed to be involved in a pretty big event on Tuesday. I lost a pretty sweet set of armor, but the trade-off is fine by me.

THANKS TEAM!

Haha, but Mouse still gets the RP value of giving it to you after claiming it.

Really folks, I haven't been here all that long and I could, even before reading all these posts, guess who would be being a cry baby and who would say "Oh well, thanks team for fixing what could have become a very nasty problem in the best way possible."

I won't say I lost as much as everyone, but I did lose a decent chunk of XP and some nice items. So what? I did get back the 40k gold I GAVE to a DM NPC because it seemed like the thing Mouse would do under those circumstances (yes for those of you who were there Mouse really did give that elf 40k gold) leaving him with a little over 1k gold. But since the roll back he's already given 10k or so away anyway. And I'm sure this kind of thing happens every day on Avlis- for the most part I'd like to think that we aren't a world overly concerned with possesion or wealth or XP.

So for those of you who see this just as something that happens and we move on, and for the Team who took care of this I salute you. For the crybabies... well I hope Mouse can stay IC when he sees you all in game.

This is actually a good point...after a server goes down, please people give the server a chance to get back up and stabilise...when it happens to me I wait until there is at least 8 people logged in and the ping is 250 or less.. otherwise i leave it alone...too often i see the server go down, as soon as it comes back it is pinging in excess of 2000 and 1 or 2 online,, then it crashes again and the same thing repeats itself.

Now ive heard that the gamespy ping report inst entirely accurate.. thats fine.. but you can defintily tell if its running well enough...dont just start slamming the server the second it appears on the gamespy list.

It could have been far worse. If it were not for the back-ups, everyone would really be screwed. Thanks for fixing it in the timely mannor you did. Thanks Avlis Team.

Also just use some common sense... if you were on a server with 30 people but you were just walking around or chatting, wait 5 minutes or so before coming back. If you were in a group fighting somewhere but you were the weakest member of the party, wait a few minutes, let the stronger ones get on first. If you were crafting wait to come back and wait a little longer to start up again (not even going to get into the "don't load up the table" argument). If you know you're going to be dead and in your afterlife anyway, wait a couple of minutes. Once your party does get back, if you aren't in immediate danger wait to start buffing until it looks like the server has settled (I imagine the graphics for spells are mostly handled client side, but the action still has to cue and the info still has to be sent to those in the party/nearby). Don't immediately start inviting everyone back into the 12 person group you had when the server went down. Etc., etc., etc.

Only time I'm ever in a hurry to get back is if I was leading a group or if I was pretty sure it was just my client that got dropped.

The Team simply rocks, that's all there is to it. Knowing they were gonig to take heat from some meatheads yet making the the game fun for those folks whose characters got screwed was a classy move.

And I am truly hopeful that every corrupted character is restored so we can game on. Besides, I want Cyan to be the one to corrupt you, not some stupid bug.
