Thats just awesome about the server move, I couldn't be any happier :)

Too bad the weekend is my prime avlis time

On a note, a server message would be nice so us weekend warriors can get a clean log before everything goes black and our desktops maximize and in one load woice in unison can be heard round the world....
"NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" :lol:

But seriously, very cool 8)

First, let me say you couldn't pick a better time. Football game on Friday and marching competition on Saturday will mean I won't be able to even breathe on the computer!

Second, I'm American. So sorry PJ, but you got my vote just for existing! Why vote for Bush or Kerry? On the bright side, you could use federal funding for hosting Avlis! Imagine, Cray supercomputers running each module and another one running the utilities. All inside a bunker complex encased in 20-ft walls of reinforced concrete with it's own powerplant and the fastest connection possible. Along with 10,000 armed guards, tanks, german shepeards, barbed wire, land mines, walls, video survallence system, doppler radar, SAM and Anti-missle missle launchers, and to top it all off a wierd energy shield you dragged over from Area-51. So nothing can stop our playing! Oh, and the capability to put the servers on an airplane with a wireless internet connection in case there is an earthquake.

Wunderbar, uitstekend, bellissimo, go lokile !

When Gurky returns from his sojourn home there will be less stones to trip over and cause his progress in Elyisia undue lag.

*wonder* You planning on hosting each mod on its own machine ?

Gurky_Bogglewig wrote:*wonder* You planning on hosting each mod on its own machine ?
not quite. there will be a definite redistribution of the mods so that there is only 1 large mod on each machine. then they might host a second smaller mod as well, but that part hasn't been all worked out yet. again, that will be an ongoing adjustement as the initial work is just to move the servers to the new location.

swapping mods around can be done very quickly once we are at the new location.

Good luck anyway though
There is a LOT more to upgrading to 1.64. Meaning, no, that wont be happening during the move. The hakpaks aren't even finished with their updates yet.

A lot more work? What do you mean, there's a nice menu option for updates and one button to push. Viola, v1.64 complete.

This is the last I'll comment on this issue here, since it's off topic.

I know you were just kidding, but just to give a bit of an idea why it hasn't already all been updated...

We have two seperate hakpaks for the CoPaP. The 2da hak, and the content hak. The 2da hak needs to be updated to be compliant with 2da changes in 1.64. Furthermore, we have to add in new content to the 2da hak (psionics) as well as a few more things, like new item types, and I personally have new fish icon requests to fill.

And then there's the CEP. If we finished up our hak work RIGHT NOW and released, there would have to be ANOTHER update when CEP releases their 1.5 version. The sooner I get my hands on the final 2das from the new CEP version, the sooner this will all be finished.

There are other people working on aspects of the haks that have yet to submit their work to me as well. So, largely, it's a waiting game.

This definetly wont be the months like it was when we first implimented the CEP though. Don't worry. ;)

Not to mention that there's probably going to be a 1.65 in the near future to deal with *crash bugs* introduced by 1.64. Like the move, the upgrade is going to happen "when it's ready" :)

Q: Something screwy's happening! Is it the move?
A: Um, no.

This will not happen without warning. The target for cutover is sometime later this afternoon EDT. If we have problems with the alternate machines it may get delayed to tomorrow. We will keep you informed.

As a matter of fact, we'll create a new announcement thread for it.

But, really, it would be better if server issued message before it went down. Not that it helps much when you have loaded three bags of cotton into the loom ... and almost done crafting them into cloth ^_^

If it is planned to take the servers offline for whatever reason there is always a server wide shout giving a warning. Seriously though these guys are undertaking to move all the Avlis servers to a new location and then shift mods around between various machines. They are doing all this for our benefit and for free during their weekend off from work.

Therefore it is really not an issue whether people experience a little discomfort in their playing experience for a day or two. Be patient people, its all for the greater good. It will come!
