I could come up with a couple... I think....

DM makes an NPC but does it up as a full character. Meaning the make a character off line, level it up and so forth, and then log in and use said NPC as their Avatar.

When possessing something with full powers. Want to try and issue some sort of creature smack down without "cheating". Kinda like giving something Regen, instead of just DM healing it. :)

Rough guesses, as most of my possessing is of the talking kind, not the killing kind.

Shit... If I as a DM wanted someone dead, I'd just use the DM kill button. Why a DM would ever want to attack things, is honestly not something I can quite understand.
Hala server?

uhm.. currently when you DM possess an NPC, even if nearby NPCs/PCs are hostile to you, clicking on them does NOT make you attack them. you have to right-click on them and specify attack. by fixing this, it should make it much easier for DMs to attack or respond to attacks while they are possessing NPCs..

not that that would happen all that often..

Ohhh that's what it's fixed. Yes that is a pain. I thought it was just not being able to attack a PC/NPC with the DM avatar.

You have to manually download it from there site. The updater checks for... well updates. at nwn.bioware.com the navigation menu should have a downloads section that pops up a list click on patches. You should be able to find the revert patch under the approriate version of NWN you have there.

Like where? This is the general discussion form and anyone can read this. The only other place would be in the server notes, but by then you've already been asked to update.

I think a warning like this would be appropriate for the News forum, so that it would be displayed on the front page of the website.

I guess to me it's just common sense now...if you have been involved with any persistent world, there is generally a delay between the time a patch is released and the time the server updates. It just is.

My two cents,

It's usually worth it to revertpatch NWN. And if something screws up, there is always critical rebuild...

Quite honestly, the attack optoin in teh dm radial is burried. The dm kill convieniently sits where the attack option is on a player radial menu. I have dropped more than 1 pc whilst meaning to attack them. "oops."

Between that and the jump all palyers confirmation bioware just made the client 2x more idiot proof.

I look at the recent patch, and the stuff HoTU and SoU added, robes, skies, scripting commands, on hit, better effects on tiles and weapons, armor color and look customization, being able to open inventories with the dm client... I just shake my head and think "this is the game they should have released a year ago." Not that they could have, but NWN is an incomplete game in my opinion. Just the skies alone... Or robes.

How are we doing on 1.62, looks like the patch has a solid week under its belt with no troubles.

the 1.62 patch involved some updates to 2da files. this means that we need to update the CoPaP hak to match these changes.

Yes yes, I'm on it. I've been busy, and I'm dealing with the fact that I DON'T have ACCESS to certain RESOURCES that I need. (hint hint)

It'll be done soon enough. :P

I usually copy the complete NWN directory to a different place before upgrading, it allows me to play both the 1.61 and 1.62 version at the moment. Just make shortcuts to the desktop referencing different locations.

I'm brand new (haven't even played on a server yet) and I already have 1.62 installed. I downloaded the revert patch and extracted it to my install directory, but when I run UPDATE nothing happens. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm dying to get started!

Oh, and now for a completely unrelated question -- where do I put custom portraits? In the main install directory?

Thanks!

There should be a "portraits" directory in your main install directory. Put them in there. If there isn't, make it, then put them in there. Now hurry up and get in game, and welcome to Avlis :)
