Avlis Fan Sites

Post by Orleron » Sun Jul 30, 2006 4:50 pm

I wanted to do something fun here with the Avlis Fan sites. There are a good number of guilds and other groups here that have their own Avlis fan site. I would like to post links to these fan sites on our front page sidebar. Think of it as a way of saying thank you, and a way of doing some more community development here! If you have a fan site or know of one, please post the link here so Grunt, our webmaster, can create the sidebar block.

Do we want to make Wiki pages for the fan sites, too?

That's up to you guys. I just want to list the links to the fansites on the sidebar for easy navigation. It's more of a navigation/ease-of-use thing in my mind than an informational thing.

There was a movement a while back for the Andrinor's Trust Orders to have individual forums for initiates and so forth.

So far only the White Order has really taken up on the idea, but it's simple enough to set it up for each of the other orders.

So, this may count as a fan-site as such. http://trust.p0m.net

Any of the order's archmages feel free to ask me to set up accounts/forums for ech.

Mine are in my signature - although only the ACE Forum is still being maintained at the moment. However, I am happy to resume support for the others if people wish to use them.

I would be happy to set one up for Green if they wish, unless of course p0m prefers to set them all up with a common look and feel.

Edit: We will put them all on the one site. Working with p0m on this.

EDIT: The joke is gone as the h4x0r advertising was deleted. Since there is no further reason to keep it here, please delete in a free moment. :)

If these sites are linked, it may be wise to include some publically-accessible information on the "home" page of each site - as is, it appears that most are private and require a login to get any information about the organization. As the members who get logins are probably already members, the sites really don't gain anything by being linked on the Avlis page without a paragraph or two about what they are, how to join, who to contact etc., even if it's copied verbatim from the Wiki entry on the guild.

For instance, the AAAA site does have a public section with a catalogue of products and a list of members to contact for business, but it's not necessarily obvious - it should probably have some info on that(and membership req's) on the home page. I'll bring that up with my guildmates.

It's just for the site (and thus the guild it represents) to really benefit from (and to some extent, deserve to have) a link on the main page, random forum browsers should really be able to learn something when they follow the link.

We have a forum site set up for Privateer Enterprises.

We just added a forum for customers to make requests or arrange to meet a sales person.
