Nijmegen Avlis Meet Is A Success!
Just wanted to congratulate the folks in Nijmegen for yet another successful real life Avlis gathering! From the pictures, it looks like they all had a ton of fun! This is what it's all about, folks! Some pic links:

Yes, all people who were at the Nijmegen meet but decided that a whole weekend wasn't enough and started on thursday
It was great fun, I loved to meet you all and I think the mega PnP adventure went really smoothly, considering how much chaos and mayhem all players together were trying to create. Great work, DMs!

So tell us about the mega pnp adventure. Were you guys playing on Avlis or another world?
How many DM's were involved?
Was it kinda like the one that ceardan and I ran where we had 2 Dm's running opposing adventures that eventually had their parties come against one another in a huge battle at the end?

There were 5 DMs: Xoc, Sindol, Khaelindra, JollyOrc and Nonscience, who each had their own party. The setting was Dragonlance, we played two sessions, all converging in the same spot.
They also had one evil DM minion, Pub?rt, who played annoying NPCs, was the DM messenger service between the parties and generally helped out where needed.
My own party (Evil'R'Us) was chasing a lawful good party with Solamnic Knights in it (Shiny Armour and Moustaches Inc.). While we managed to team up with a mainly neutral party (the Nomads) and convince them that the Solamnic Knights were in fact fakes and evil and should be eliminated (yay for our bard and his bluff of well into the 60s), the knights teamed up with a bunch of druids and rangers (the Shrubhumpers). I kind of lost track of what the 5th party, Kendermania, was doing in all the chaos.
The knights went into the ruins of Xak Tsaroth to obtain a powerful artifact called a dragon orb, we knew this and were planning an ambush when they came out. It happened to be the case that both Evil'R'Us and The Nomads had two tinkergnomes in their party, each team with two donkeys. As soon as we met up Team Gnome was born, and we managed to create the SDPD (The Super Donkey Pulling Device), which was a donkey mounted siege catapult, adapted to launch projectiles that consisted of bottles of alchemist's fire and lamp oil tied together, that would break and catch fire on impact. It was fitted on a pedestal so we could aim it, and had a special aiming device. The power to load the catapult was gained from the donkeys, who had special caps on their heads with straws in their mouths and funnels on top so we could feed them potions if needed.
The thing needed to be gnomed by all four of us, and we managed to score a direct hit on the evil fake white robed knight and his evil bodyguard (*coughs* Really, they were evil I tell you!). Unfortunately we forgot that the whole battle took place in a swamp, and that you get swamp gas which is explosive... This was a good example of why anyone traveling with a gnome needs evasion. The device was cooked after that, so we tried to throw our projectiles by hand. After seeing that this didn't work, and losing one of our brave gnomish comrades who was shot down by the evil knights, we decided to flee the scene in the confusion. Luckily we could save our donkeys because of the healing potions we were able to feed them (courtesy of Xeo's gnome who had "borrowed" 50 of the things from a drunk potion merchant).
So all in all, we didn't get to do science and lost one of our brothers, but at least we saved our asses.

No two ways about it. Next time we need to prepare even better.

HAPPY THOUGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, it was so much fun and great to see many new faces! Finally, finally got to meet Maria and Stavros, he he.
35 people, pancakes, 5 dungeongroups, mega-CvC-PnP-D&D-TNT(gnomes)-session, great organisational skills by Simone (Elong, give the girl a big cookie) she was wonderful, thanks to Daan (Curois) and Maurice (Demonlady) for helping with the preparations and transportation, thanks Craig (GhengisKhan) for driving me to the station and hope youre feeling much better than yesterday now, thanks Gavin (Xeo) for the lovely spirit and fun you brought (did you know he's been a Chef? He still knows how to terrorize hapless visitors to 'his' kitchen
).
Thanks everyone else for making this a very fun event, for helping out with DM'ing, for making breakfast, for doing dishes, for cleaning up, for being in good spirit, for not snoring in the room i slept in but instead snoring in the other bedroom
, for working with us DM's in coordinating and executing the biggest PnP-CvC-battle i ever handled, for thinking up gnomish devices and for making me long for the next Meet already.
Thanks for a swell time!
Mickey

Kudos to all who organized the Meet and the PnP event! My thanks to the dutch "lunies" for their warm accomodation too!
About the meet itself...So much fun to see in person all these addicts!
But I guess the time was too short for so many people to get to feel comfortable with each other and talk more openly... I know I didnt manage to speak to all I wanted to..
I mean just a talk with Khaelindra and Jolly could take a day if we started it!
Until next time folks!

This is not quite the way it happened. Let me give you a more accurate account.Eef wrote: The thing needed to be gnomed by all four of us, and we managed to score a direct hit on the evil fake white robed knight and his evil bodyguard (*coughs* Really, they were evil I tell you!). Our band of noble adventurers was descending into the depths of the temple of Mishakal. To avoid overcrowding, the white-robed wizard Maddyn and his loyal bodyguard Marcus decided to stay at the upper level to give the fearless Knights of Solamnia time to clear the lower level of bad guys.
While the wizard and his companion were eagerly awaiting their chance to go down, Marcus saw movement oustide of the temple. Maddyn used his arts to turn Marcus and himself invisible and they took a quick look outside.
To their indescribeable horror, the first thing they saw was a dark shape dragging the liveless body of Golden Mane, four-legged companion of their fellow adventurer and dear friend Fitzgerald, into the swamp. How were they going to bring this dire news to their friend?
However, they did not have much time to consider all of this. Way back on the road outside of the temple, a dark and mysterious... thing.... drew their attention. It had 4 ears and at least 7 legs, and small figures were swarming all over it.
Next thing they knew, a cluster of strange object came flying from the machine towards the unsuspecting mage and his companion. With great presence of mind and without a single thought for his own safety, Marcus pushed Maddyn out of the way. Not a second later, the flying objects turned the entrance to the temple into raging inferno.
Deciding that the time had come for a strategic withdrawal, Maddyn blocked the entrance to the temple with a wall of force. The dull explosions coming from outside the temple filled the wizard and his bodyguard with grim satisfaction while they made their way down to their companions.

Goddammit, studied and lived in Nijmegen for 8 years and never heard of Avlis. Took me an emigration to Boston in the US to find out there are so many people from my little country playing in my little escape from the real world.
Way to go people,
Hope to see you in Avlis sometimes (hell, I probably have met some of you with one or more of my char's, but since dutchies english is generally good I wouldn't have know).
Pat.

*A Black robed wizard elf enters the bar. Along with him walks a charmed old Ranger who carries the elf's bags and a Red robed Wizard.
Both wizards have a look of satisfaction in their faces. The Black Wizard "suggests" to the Bartender to buy free drinks for everyone, so as to celebrate their latest victory, against the... evil forces of the land...
The Elf winks to the Bard, sitting in the rear end of the Bar and nodding he says... "We did well..." *

From the stables of the inn loud hammering and sawing noises can be heard. After a while a female gnome walks in with a satiffied look on her face. She walks over to the black robed elf and says:

At a corner of the inn, an elf is seen to spend hours toying with something in his hands...something invisible..
On a closer inspection, the elf from time to time raises his hand and stares at a string of hair he holds, then grins and nods to himself approvingly...
It only took a couple of words from his divine lips, for the young druidess to fall in love with him, afterall...
