Now able to accept contributions through BidPay

Post by Orleron » Sun Dec 12, 2004 7:29 pm

I am experimenting with a new method for giving donations that does not involve Paypal or physically sending checks. Head over to:

http://www.bidpay.com

This is a service run by Western Union. Unlike Paypal, it does not work with your bank account. You click on the link that says "Pay Now", and it asks you whom to send money to. Type in:

exec@blackparadox.com

It will then ask you how you wish to send the payment. When I did it myself, it only gave me the option to choose Visa or American Express, which is limited but better than nothing.

Try it out if you have one of those cards. I would like to see if this is something we could use, so send a few test donations of a dollar or two to see if it works.

Also, something to know, when you use this service to send money, it charges you US$1.95 service fee. That's more than paypal charges, but this thing seems more secure in some ways.

Let me know how you like it and we might integrate this into the fanfic site if possible.

Just for the record from previous eBay experience and general security warnings, I wouldn't touch Western Union with a 70ft Bargepole as it has no comeback whatsoever and money sent with it is completely untracable, but in the case of Avlis, that shouldn't be a problem because you're not expecting anything in return, so it can't really be a scam... er.. and that sort of makes this entire paragraph kind of pointless. Oh well, just remember, if you see an eBay auction that accepts nothing other than WU, or says it does then they say they will only take WU, it's a scam

... that or if they live in Nigeria...
