A tragedy within our community

Post by Scurvy_Platypus » Thu Apr 22, 2004 9:44 pm

On Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at about 14:00 EST the young son of Nithia passed away as the result of Batten Disease.

I've tried to write this for the last hour, and still can't figure out what to say, or how to say it. At times we all become wrapped up in our own little worlds, both online and offline. But when something like this happens, it jolts all of us.

My understanding is the arrangements are next week. Any persons that are interested in making a donation to aid her with the arrangements, please contact me via PM.

Any persons intrested in learning more about Batten Disease should go to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association. The have more information about this disease, which is always fatal in cases involving children. Although they are able to diagnose it, there is currently no known cause of this disease, nor treatment for it.

I have not been here for as long as most, but I know that a tragedy for one of the members of this community is a tragedy for all of us. I am sorry

This is extremely sad news indeed. And certainly when a tragedy like this happens it puts one's own very minor probelms into perspective.

My condolences. My thoughts are with you.

As the father of two, I imagine there are no words which can adequately console at a time such as this. But Nithia, please know that you have the deepest sympathies of myself and my entire family.

Nithia, I cannot express how much I am sorry over this. I can only offer my condolences, as feeble they must seem to you.

The words may seem empty but they are said from the heart. You and your family are in my thoughts, please accept my condolences.
I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Words are insufficient at such times, but they're the best we have to work with. Heartfelt sorrow and condolences for you and yours, Nithia, may the pain pass but the memories live on.
