New custom character creator running well!

Post by Orleron » Sun Nov 16, 2003 6:04 am

AutoBic, a wonderful program created by Red Golem of Abyss404 PW is up and running on our Le'Or T'Nanshi server. This software allows anyone to make a new character and convert it IN GAME into a custom race. This conversion is a true one performed on the character bic file by an outside application, and not a kludge. To celebrate, we have lifted all custom race restrictions on Avlis. Now anyone can play one of our many to select from: Centaur, Goblin, Kobold, Half-Nymph, Half-Dryad, Lizardman, Orc, Half-Ogre, Gnoll, Wemic. Plus, other worlds connected with CoPaP will have still more races, and if you create on over there, you can play it on Avlis with no problem.

I think you mentioned earlier that Gnoll and Wemic are disabled for the time being.

I think this is awesome. Hopefully we can see more of those new races runnign around in the near future!

Dumb Question:

So how do you use it please?

to see it in action you can visit the abyss404 server. The last time i was there it was still pulic but the vault gets purged every 24h.

The process is the following:

1) Create your character the normal way in the nwn character generator.
2) you are in a special area for character customization after that with a golem or so in it.
3) the golem analyzes your character and gives you several options, like subrace or race change.
4) when youre done exit (iirc you get booted) and wait at least 10secs. I'd recommend to wait more (about 20 sounds secure). During this time the autobic modifies the bic file of your character to what you specified before.
I dont know what excatly happens when you connect before the autobic process is completed.
5) Login again. Your again in front of the golem that gives you race token items if necessary.
6) go and play

Hrm....

Post by DM_Tim » Mon Nov 17, 2003 6:00 am

This is my first time on the boards and my first time on any Avlis server. I wanted to make a kobold pc, so I followed the instructions and created a halfling, selected a portrait (nothing in the list for kobolds, so I picked a shadowy pic). Then I talked to the newbie instructor NPC and at the end of the conversation, he did not give me the option to start character customization.

I tried both branches of conversation and neither allowed me to customize the character (though 1 of the options did boot me, heh). After being unsuccessful with the instructor, I talked to the golem, but he only customizes sub races apparently. Then of course after exhausting all options, I wandered outside which is the point of no return (to the starting area anyway).

I attempted this a second time with a gnome character (since gnome is also a path to kobold per the instructions) but the same thing happened. Have I done anything wrong? Is the system working? Could someone please purge the two characters I have made so that I can try again (and use the same name)?

You have to put the race you want to be in the sub-race bar, I believe.

Hmmm

Post by DM_Tim » Mon Nov 17, 2003 6:36 am

Let me modify my previous post with the following. Shortly after my post the LeOrTNanshi server rebooted, then I was able to get the golem to present the Kobold option to a gnome (not a halfling) though after logging back in my character is not changed (yes I did wait the required 10 seconds).

In any event, could someone please take a peek at the app and see if it's running and allows a halfling to kobold transformation (my preference) and please wipe the 3 characters I've created while testing this new feature out?

Give it at least two weeks before huge changes like this one work nicely.

We got the system working a few days ago and are now optomizing it to work better with the rest of our software. Because of this, you'll see small malfunctions like that happen alot until we get it back up to speed again. As Pap mentioned, give it a couple weeks to get running at full speed again.

That's fine, but could someone please purge the characters I've created? As soon as I get word that that's done, I'll start a new character. I'm looking forward to playing here.

As a semi-related note, we know you're not an Avlis DM. You don't have a custom title saying 'Avlis - DM', for a start. :D Look forward to seeing you when you join up.

I'm looking forward to trying out a custom character in the future. Great stuff.

Sorry, I forgot to mention.

Of course, there are a few teething troubles at present with this thing - like the masculine female centaurs and the hover-centaurs.

However, it is an amazing idea and (minor issues aside) works really well.

I think for a while, every man and his dog will be playing one of these new races. However, after a while, things will cool down and people will play their real preferences - so we will see a spread of all nine races. Either way, it will take some time for the new ones to match the originals in number.

Thankyou to the Team for this - AWESOME

Very nice indeed. Also mean not having to try and test a beta version of the CODI PC Pack V2, since the CODI team hasn't tested it either, despite the beta being given to them almost a month ago.

Very nice thing it looks like. Another benefit to CoPap. Kudos to the team.

ok, no editing program needed? I make a char, and enter Le'Or and then get the "coating"?

excuse my ignorance, but it's hard to comprehend?

Note that not all races will work on all servers yet. This means that your Wemic may be stuck on Le'Or for a while until the custom characters are running well across the board. The Team has this objective in our crosshairs.
Orleron wrote: Instructions:

Log onto Le'Or T'Nanshi and go to the start area.

If you wish to play one of the non-standard races, make a brand new character according to the table below.

***Make sure you pick the proper portrait and write the proper background with this character as if it was already converted to the custom race.***

Then talk to the Newbie Instructions NPC. After you go through the server rules, he will give you the option to start the character customizer. Good luck. Many thanks to Red Golem of Abyss404 for creating this system.

Make a _____ to play a ______:

Half-Elf: Centaur, Half-Dryad, Half-Nymph, Lizardman, Wemic

Dwarf: Goblin, Kobold

Elf: Ghost Elf, Drangonari

Gnome: Goblin, Kobold

Halfling: Goblin, Kobold

Human: None

Half-Orc: Gnoll, Half-Ogre, Kobold, Lizardman, Orc

NOTE 1: Centaur, Orc, Lizardman, Half-Ogre, Goblin, and Kobold do not use character models. This means that your character will always look the same, no matter what armor or clothing you put on. You will still get the affects of the things you are wearing. You just won't see them show up on your body on the screen. In the next hakpak, I plan to find character models for these things, so you will be able to see the clothing/armor, but I am still looking. Post links to any good character model hakpaks for those races if you find them.

NOTE 2: Wemic and Gnoll are disabled temporarily. This is because as of this writing we are still trying to work out the problem with the new ELC checker, which is going to be necessary if these wemics and gnolls are to be able to log in. When this problem gets fixed, they will be avialable as all the other races.

Okay I am not laughing... what the hell is going on?
I get on today. I have been playing for awhile and thought I would try a custom race as allowed and talked about in this thread. I get into the elven city server, make a half-orc, enter the world, talk to the race golem and select half-ogre. I get booted as I should.

I come back on to login in the character and the character name has been changed to "STUPID CHEATER" ...

What is going on? Did you all decide that not every one can run a half-ogre anymore? Is this a bug or are you really trying to get people to leave Avlis?

Hehehe, where does the Stupid Cheater name come from? I've seen that a few times when the custom creator was being tested. Managed to avoid it with my own test characters though...

...since I R00L!

Okay, I'm in a silly mood I guess.

Worgain,

Hey, let's get your STUPID CHEATER half-ogre together with mine. I'll bet we can find some more and form up a gang or something :)

What were your stats and feats? Perhaps the half-ogre stat adjustments resulted in an invalid combination (like Ambidexterity with a DEX less than 15).
