Vanor passes the torch with grace.

Post by Orleron » Thu Oct 23, 2003 3:34 am

A message from Vanor, the Avlis Housing Director who is stepping down from his post:
I want to take a moment to explain why I'm doing this.

Part of the reason is, I've been doing this for over a year now, and to be honest I'm burned out. I took the job orginally, because someone needed to do it, and I thought I could do the job. I think I've done a good job with it, but time has taken it's toil on me, and it is now time for me to step down.

I find it hard to get motivated to work on housing, and that simply isn't fair to the Avlis players. You deserve to have your housing requests handled in a timely manner, and that's just something I'm finding hard to do, because I've been doing it for so long.

The other part of the reason is because I feel with what I've done so far with the housing system, it can now surive without me. The way things work are clearly established, guidelines writen, rules posted, and scripts compiled.

Since I find my desire to do the job declining, and the ablity for someone fresh to take over and give you all everything you deserve, it is time for me step aside and let someone else do it.

I will be aiding the new housing director in his break in period, and for as long as he wants my help. I'll guide, give advice, and help however I can. So other then a change in who you contact there won't be that much difference noticed I hope.

I am finaly doing this, because it will give me more time to DM and do other avlis releated things I wish to do. Like finaly finish the Forest of Midnight, and maybe even make a new area for people to play in.

I'm not leaving the staff, I'll still be a DM and part time area builder, but the time has come for me to give the job of housing to someone who can do it better then I can now.

Thank you all so much for your understanding and allowing me to make Avlis just that much better by helping you all out.

We the Team and the players salute you, Vanor for a job well done. Can't wait to see your future contributions to Avlis.

Great work over the Ages Vanor, burnout happens to the best of us, especially when we are overworked, underappretiated, and with few to help us out. I sincerely appretiate you taking of your time to help the new housing directly and sincerely hope the new housing director will also solicit the help of others so as not to burn out. Its a busy job with all the requests I hear coming in from the players.

best of wishes

Ok, at the risk of getting brown on my nose, which is NOT my intention, this truely is a serious post. I would say the same anonymously if I knew how.

But reading this post makes me really stop, and think about all the DMs, builders, scripters and world conceptualizers and whomever else is involved that need a huge thank you for all of your work. It is obvious from all the people who come here and stay, you are all doing a great job!! I take it for granted sometimes you are ALL people who are just VOLUNTEERING your time and frustration to make a place the rest of us can truly enjoy!

THANK YOU

Vanor,

You were the one who handed me my first house key (the first player owned house on Avlis) and I'll always remember the moment I paid for the place.

You've been a great housing director and wish you all the best in your new DMing hat.

Just remember who your buddies in Mikona are when you have a few extra XPs to hand out. :D

Thanks. :) But I've been a DM for nearly as long as I've been the housing director. Just the housing thing took up so much time I didn't DM much. Well there was other things too...

Apprently very few people knew I've been a DM for over a year now too.

I'd just like to say thanks for all the work you've done. Burnham's Events wouldn't have been possible without your hard work and efforts.

All I can hope for is that your replacement is as helpful and responsive as you have been.

So more DM less housing stuff....means More Green Dragons for Mel ;-).

Thanks for all your help and great work over the last few months and I got my house in order.

This is better, I don't feel so parnoid about bugging someone who's not a DM for my housing issues
