Checkpoints
A. Entrance to Elyisa (ooc: on the Wilderness server still, just by where the transition to Elysia server is)

B. Entrance to Delgos (ooc: on the Wilderness server still, in front of those gates near where the stall-holders are).

C. Entrance to Le'Or (ooc: on the Wilderness still, just near the Southern-most transition point to Le'Or).

Marhsalls
At checkpoint A (Elsyia): Aspirant Silus, Bafir
At checkpoint B (Deglos): Shorts & Vence Black

So, that leaves checkpoint C (Le'Or): Kalinda Swift

Kalinda, you OK with that? You may want to take a friend to fend off any wildlife in the dark T'Nanshi forests. Although I hear that the road to Le'Or from Elysia is not too dangerous.

Mr. Burnham,

I was hoping to marshall at Mikona, as it might be more busy. However, as I live in Elysia, I should be able to reach Le'Or'T'Nanshi. I may need some kind gallant gentleman to escort me there please.

Will I be all alone in the Forest while marshalling? If I am, do I get double the fee for doing the work of two?

Regards,
Kalinda.

There is no checkpoint at Mikona, only the start/finish line, which I will be "marshalling".

I'm sure you will find some gallant soul to guard escort you there, and keep you company whilst you wait for the competitors to reach you. Good luck. I may consider giving you double wages if you end up doing the work of 2!

Note to all contestants:
When you reach a checkpoint, you should see a marshall in a bright yellow tunic. Please approach the marshall, and ask for the "race token", and then procede the next checkpoint or back to the finish line if you have all 3 tokens.

Note to marshalls:
Please hand out one (and only one) of the special "race tokens" to each race contestant that approaches you and asks for one.

Contestants will then race (by whatever route, and by whatever means that they see fit)

The first person to cross the finish line with all 3 tokens will be declared the winner. There are no rules other than that!
Er, so obvious Question.... can we Fireball the rest of the competition at the starting line???

Mr Burnham,

As I am currently in Mikona, following our meeting recently, perhaps it would be convenient for me to collect the race tokens there before I return home to Elysia. Could we plase meet to do that? (OOC - perhaps early tonight or early tomorrow evening? Please send me a PM and I will login to Mikona as Kalinda).

Also, if any brave adventurers are going from Mikona to Elysia (or perhaps to Le'Or'T'Nanshi after this meeting, could they please help a young Bard to travel the dangerous route safely. I do not like the boat, as it is so expensive and I get seasick).

As for the day of the Race, I assume I need to be on duty by the Start Time (OOC 21:30 BST), to ensure I am in place before any contestants arrive. I may need to bring a packed lunch as well, as it will not be possible to visit the City for supplies once the race starts. Other Marshalls might bear that in mind as well.

Looking forward to the Event,
Regards,
Kalinda.

Marshalls:

Sorry, I still have not managed to find any of you. I will however be paying a visit to Elysia later on today (ooc: about 1 hour before the race) to ensure everything is OK. If you still need your marshall's uniform and race "tokens" then keep your eyes open. Oh, and don't forget I have 500 gold for each of you.

Contestants & Spectators:

Race is stil scheduled to go ahead today (ooc: 9:30pm UK time, that's 8:30pm GMT). See you all at the start/finish line in Mikona - just outside the City Gates.

OK, folks only about 20mins to go .... and guess what ... a last minute change!

The local residents have complained about the race starting down their street, so in respect of them, the start/finish line has been moved to just into the start of the Wilderness part of M'Check. (ooc: so start/finish and all checkpoints are on the same server, we sill start just inside the Wilderess Server).

However, please still meet up outside City Gates, when everyone is assembled we will walk over to the Wilderness area.

May the best contestant win!

Help - I am stuck up a tree in Le'Or'T'Nanshi and can't get down.

Kalinda.

OOC - Unable to portal into Wilderness - times out. I will wait a few minutes and try again.

Well folks, the race is over and the results are in, and the results are .... interesting ;)

Lafreth Theoalideth was frist over the line, followed by Yolanda, Rickard Stryker, Midnight, Kelm and Straw (although Mr Straw wasn't actually seen to start the race?) and finnaly some 30 minutes or so after the others .. was Tiras "The Brawling Mage".

So, I have my fastest time for the trip, courtesy of Lafreth, and he receives a personal reward from me for this information.

However, all contestents bar one had the wrong "tokens".

And that one, was actually none other than Tiras "The Brawling Mage"! He was the only one to have all correct tokens, from each checkpoint!

The other contestants had seemingly been given false tokens at 2 of the checkpoints! I will of course be having a full enquiring as to how this could happen... and the truth will be found out.

Now, isn't that strange... that Tiras was the only one to have the right tokens ... even though he started 5 minutes after the others and finished a good 30 minutes after. He was the only one to get the right tokens!

However, a deal is a deal, and I stick by my word. So, Tiras gets his pieces of gold. May he enjoy them whilst he can.

Congratulations to all that took part.

I was hoping to make this an annual affair ... but I think I have changed my mind now.

ooc:

I do hope everyone had fun, despite the server-reset, and the fact that a half-hour race took considerably longer due to the mischievous work or a certain group ;) Good scam lads ... but you better be watching your backs.

[OOC]
This was a fun day (except for my character getting killed afterwards).

It was an interesting idea and the actual race was good. The 'real' winner was a mage, as expected.

Marshalling was boring and lonely - exactly as in Real Life when marshalling.

That might well have been as far as it went.

However, certain miscreants decided to fix the race. They setup new characters, applied to act as Marshalls and then gave out wrong tokens to everyone except their colleague. What a great idea. Well thought out and well played.

As the one 'honest' marshall, of course I disapprove and think they should be punished. Personally, I think it was a good idea - wish I had thought of it :?

Finally - my 1,000th post

OOC:

They weren't exactly new; we've been playing them for several weeks. Just remember, the bandits are clever.

Our comrade was late though, and we were shorthanded. It was amusing, though. Glad everyone had fun.

And as an aside, both winners were mages ;)
