If you enter Hala with any item, you WILL NOT lose it! The way persistent chests work is by storing the tag of the item so when it goes to retrieve it after a restart or even after the chest is closed, it will try to create an item based on it's tag. If there is an item in the Hala palette that matches this tag, it'll be created, if not, you've lost your item. We have copies of every item created in Avlis since before mid-july with their proper tags.
What this means to people who are worried about losing items: To be safe, don't put your items in persistent chests.

Well I just returned from Hala and I have somethings to say:
I don't know what kind of coin they have there but all the prices are doubled or tripled, also I fought (lvl 5 <- me) some wolf's and they almost kicked my arse and after I managed to kill them I examined them only to find they were Easy.
My 2?

So to be 100% sure. If the item remains on me it is safe. If the item is plot and I die, it should remain on me.pitched_black wrote:If you enter Hala with any item, you WILL NOT lose it! Is death similar to Mythos or Avlis or permanent

If money it the root of all evil, I want to be a bad man!
As soon as you enter Hala, the death rules are posted. You have 3 choices, when you go to the death plane:Melakin Skywieder wrote:

1- Lose a lot of gold and a level, get sent straight back to your body.
2- Lose some exp and gold, end up at the traveller's inn at the crossroads.
3- Go through some sort of maze and at the end lose only a little bit of exp, end up at the traveller's inn.
If they imported Avlis' template, the plot items are the same as what was tagged in Avlis as of July... so something like an Amulet of Natural Armor +5 would stay on you.
<Sili> I've seen septic tanks with less shit in them than Fuzz.
<Ronnin> damm not even a kiss??
<Chasmania> Kiss Fuzz? I'd rather fellate a goat.
<Chasmania> there are many roads to Rome..they just picked a shit filled alley full of scabby hookers and bums.

The merc spawns are different too. In avlis I get two badass dwarves and a halfling or something like that, but on hala I get 4 effortloss dwarves and 4 effortless elves. Well normally they aren't that much of a problem, but 4 fireballs and 4 acid arrows at once with those 4 dwarves doing quite some damage too is pretty hard actually
Though I think in the end it will be just as easy/hard as in avlis, I suppose a little easier, because they don't have as much hitpoints.

Option 3, going through the maze, deducts no xp but it is quite the pain to do.
Option 4 would be to get yourself rezzed or raised which also deducts no xp (or gold).
The difficulty of the spawns go by the area you're in. In the plains, the should be easier, in the forest they should be harder and the mountains they should be really hard. There aren't very many encounters though so you really shouldn't worry about wandering.
As long as items stay on you, Hala will not take them away.

I have another Hala-Avlis link question:
Zacharia ventured over to Hala yesterday to check it out. It appears that the servers over there are at least temporarily down.
I have limited time to play lately (tonight being one of those times), so I'm thinking of just logging into the Elysia server as if I had portalled back. I know that I will lose any exp, gold, items that I had earned in Hala, but is this the only negative effect?
i.e. If I spend time in Avlis (gaining exp, gold, items) and then use the portal to go back to Hala, will my modified character file overwrite what is currently on the Hala server or will it revert back to when I was last there?
Do I seem confused? Yes? Good.

If I remember the techno-people's explanation right, this is not possible. Your character file will be send (as in not copied) to the linking server, in this case Hala, in which case it will no longer be available in the Avlis servervault.Tharliss wrote: I have limited time to play lately (tonight being one of those times), so I'm thinking of just logging into the Elysia server as if I had portalled back. Due to the mechanism I described above, you can only log in on the server you last logged out from. No serverhopping between different worlds. This ensures you will always have your latest characterfile.Tharliss wrote: i.e. If I spend time in Avlis (gaining exp, gold, items) and then use the portal to go back to Hala, will my modified character file overwrite what is currently on the Hala server or will it revert back to when I was last there?
Maybe Jeroenb wil write something in the future that will make our "one hour between serverhops" rule implementable through vaultSTER, but iirc we're not there yet.
@Jeroen/Papillon: Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.

I tried this out before reading these messages. I actually WAS able to start with my character in the Mikona start tent, although it was with the version that I had before jumping to Hala. I did this as a test and never left the start tent, as I only had a couple minutes and I wanted to test it out.jeroenb wrote:You are right Sindol.
When a player is moving from Elysia to Hala via the portal, the VaultSTER software will send your character to Hala and remove it from the local fault on success. Which basically disables server hopping.
Later in the day, Hala was back up so I started Zach from that server and started exactly where I left him during my last session. I then took Zach to the portal and jumped to Elysia without any problems.
This sounds like a contradiction with what you are expecting, so you might want to add this to the bug list. I'll be interested to see if I have two copies of Zach in my server vault list on Avlis.
Let me know if you need any additional tests.

I also brought a character over to Hala today, had a blast but it started getting late so I wanted to get back home. Problem was I couldnt. Relogged and tried again, Portal still wasn't liking me so after a few attempts I just logged into Elysia and there was my character. Point-in-timed from when I left. So...there you go.
LMP: "That sounds ridiculous enough to be fan fiction." Zaroas: "Even worse; its canon."
