State of Avlis 2014

Post by TripleAught » Mon Jan 06, 2014 4:18 am

Howdy!

Now that we’re in a new year, I want to make a quick post about the state of Avlis. Where we were last year, and what we have coming up.

First thing I want to collect all into one place are the amazing people we had join (or return) to the team this year as DMs:
  • dragon_speaker
  • Shardthepious
  • Stormhammer
  • Blackravenfeather
  • Urizen (Even though he stood me up!!!)
  • Ninjar
  • Xiaou
  • Dashral
  • Asugden
Next the DMs who took the plunge to become Senior DMs (loads more responsibility and no raise!), helping us tackle bigger projects and plots.
  • Olaf
  • DarknessFallsLight
  • Refminion
And, of course, all of the hardworking people in the QA group. They have all done an amazing job this year. We’ve added some new areas, re-vamped some old dungeons, and - perhaps most spectacularly - caught up on the PH queue.
A quick, specific shout-out here:
  • Micah - Has stepped up to be our Lead Producer. (He wanted more money, but I told him this kind of prestige surpasses all wealth.)
  • Hamlet - Has been named QA 2nd for her diligent work on the many things that pop-up on the QA server.
Finally, we’ve seen an uptick in old players returning to Avlis. This has been a wonderful trend and we hope to see it continue this year. (If you know anyone who should come back, tell them now’s the time!)

Alright, so what about looking forward, what do we have in store for Avlis?

Let me start with the big news. After many, many, many, ad infinitum, years of hosting the Avlis servers, we are finally moving them out of PJs garage. As an aside, the work that he’s put in, and the generosity of allowing us to use his hardware has been one of the reasons Avlis has been able to continue for so long.
We have found a hosting provider from which we are getting dedicated servers with similar specs to “The Beast” for a similar cost. We never thought we’d find something affordable from a commercial hosting company, we are excited to have it.
What this means for Avlis is that we can continue to run for as long as our donations will support the costs. (And thank you to all of you who do donate.)

We’re discontinuing Sereg as a playable race. I had hoped to make this our Christmas present to the community but better late than never. We do have a plan for any existing Sereg, if you have one, please contact the team.

And, we have a few more dungeons in the works. I don’t want to give too much away so let me just say that one will have a Plethora of dangerous creatures to kill you for you to kill.

Thanks everyone for a great 2013, and here’s looking forward to a fantastic 2014.

*stabs all Sereg*

Thank you everyone. It has personally been my highlight this last year..... but I think that is because I have only been about for 2 years? LOL.

XX To another year of Avlis <3

That is all kinds of cool and awesome news. Thanks to everyone who signed up to DM, to do QA and to PJ for caring for The Beast for so long.

This looks like great news. I look forward to seeing all of the new stuff!

I am sad to see the removal of pc seregs. Playing a sereg was one of the most challenging and rewarding characters that I have played. I would like to thank the team for creating the Underdark server and allowing players to try out being one of the undisputed bad guys of the game. Torori'Nevalor had the best players I have ever played with and they created some of the best moments that I had playing this game. I will miss Shadow breaking chairs...

I think something that was slightly ambiguous in the news post, is that "discontinuing Sereg as a playable race" means that people cannot make NEW sereg.

Old sereg are not banned/disallowed.
They can stay as "grandfathered " PCs. Thats fine :D
(guild halls and other player sereg things are not being removed IG)

But we are offering nice things to old sereg if they wish to "trade". These depend on how much you play them, and other things, taken on a sereg by sereg basis.

I hope that clears up some of the confusion

Please PM me if you have further questions

Sorry about the confusion
