New SoU hakpak for CoPaP available

Post by Orleron » Tue Aug 12, 2003 3:47 am

The new version of the hakpak and other files that will be running on all Avlis servers once we go to SoU is available now in the "Public Downloads/Hakpaks" directory via ftp to avlis.blackdagger.net. (CoPaPHak1_0.rar, CoPaPTlk.rar [optional], AvlisMusic.rar [optional], UniversalHak2_0.rar)

Edited by Papillon:

You can also get the AvlisCustomContent20.exe installation program which contains ALL of the custom content and takes care of the installation process for you. It's on our FTP server in the "public downloads" directory (filesize: 148 MB).

Will these new Haks be compatible with the servers that have not yet been converted?

I.o.w. when Deglos and Le'Or are converted and i install the new haks to be able to play there, can i still play on the Mikona server which has not been converted yet?

Haks work on all servers, Khael.

2 things, Orl... mainly superficial, although one not so much:

1- There are a few grammatical and spelling errors in a few of the PrC descriptions. It might also be a good idea to change the Paladin description slightly to show the link to Gorethar and the Avlis-ized nature of it.

2- This is the not-as-superficial one. Would be nice if the PrCs had the requirements in their description. (not including the DM quest part, since we know about that) The SoU PrCs have that, and it's nice and convenient for when you want to plan out a new character, and know exactly what you need to pursue a certain line of work. Would also help those fledgling chars who are still figuring out what they are doing by letting them see what feats/skills/Alignment they need to take a certain PrC. Don't thik it would be a good idea to show the special feat and spell lists, however... leave that as a suprise.

Oh yeah, and Harper Scout is still showing up as a selectable PrC. Also, the Blackguard description should probably be edited to fit with the other PrCs as a follower of Maleki.

All this is mainly in the interest of professionalism, as well as a way of getting a head start at staving off the torrent of "What do I need to become a..." threads that will no doubt start popping up once Avlis fully converts to SoU.

Like a lot of the new heads... another minor aside is that you should add in a custom readme file for each rar, in case people have short attention spans, plus have the UniversalHak2_0 readme have the instructions about unhaking it to your override directory to get access to the new head models, since there are lots of newbies around.

(Yes, this all sounds anal, but guess what? Just because you're a thir party mod, doesn't mean you shouldn't have standards of professionalism. 7 years of modding has taught me that much)

Really great stuff otherwise... you guys rule.

Fuzz: Why don't ypu give us a description on how to gain the head modells for the override directory?

I would be sincerely interested in seeing how this is done and implementing it for my next PC..... :)

Adding the PrCs requirements in their description is a VERY bad idea.

This, in effect, hardcodes a pre-definition of how to become the PrC, which takes away our ability to create and change the quests to become allow it.

Hardcoding is bad.

I think giving at least the skill/feat requirements are a good idea, not hardcoded but in a generally accessible thread.
It would be such a shame if someone wanting to build a 'Valok Champion' (whatever he would be called, just examplifying here) thought he would probably need 6 ranks in concentration pumps this and at level 6/7 he applies only to find out he needs 6 ranks of persuade. With 1 SP/lvl (we all know paladins are not the smartest of people :P ) that would exclude him from the PrC for 6 more levels, exit planned built.

Hardcoding would not be appropriate, but you could put it in the text description of teh class, no?

I would very much like to read the CoPaP documents and download these haks, however I have never been able to completely connect with the ftp server, I either get no connection at all, or I get an error saying i am not authorised to access those files.

I have tried both ws-ftp (my preferred ftp client) and IE 6.0 - any help would be appreciated

Information threads are planned for all PrC's on the boards and website. You'll get lists of everything about them, including powers and requirements.

Spelling/grammar corrections to the descriptions are just a matter of updating the dialog.tlk, not the hakpaks, so that's not a problem. In fact I plan to do that all the time as we go along. I could also put in a small list of feat/skill requirements for the classes in the dialog.tlk. That's all easy to change. The hakpak is pretty solid, which is what counts.

Also don't forget that these changes are not just for Avlis, but for all worlds linked to it. Therefore, it is not prudent to change paladin or blackguard descriptions since they will not apply to other worlds. You have to think globally about these things when you make suggestions, because there's other servers to think about besides ours... or at least there will be very soon.

Please do not make this into a "me too" thread about individual ftp problems. It's rather boring to read!

I will make sure the ftp functions optimally. The rest is up to your own competency with ftp software and your ability to get help privately from team members or each other.

The custom music is great. Is this made by the Avlis community?

Custom music is done by the alustrious Merlo Lurke. Make sure you thank him on the boards if you get a chance.

Feedback: I just downloaded all the new haks....everything went fine except for the universal hak, which i got a error when trying to unzip with WinRar.

It said the file is corrupted....trying to download it again, maybe something just got screwed up.

edit: redownloaded, everything is fine now.

Are all PrC's going to be scripted or just Orl's pets? Will the ones included in SoU have thier listed requirements? I am pretty sure I know the answer to this but want to be sure.

The hakpak can go live at any second.

Order will be:
Le'Or/Deglos, Wilderness, Elysia, Mikona. Between each server going to SoU, there will probably be a lag time of a couple days.

Question, are all the "religious warrior" classes going to be PrC's like the blackguard, basic classes like the Paladin, or a mix of basic and PrC? Just seems a little unfair that LG is the only alignment that would allow people to start at level 1 as a holy warrior.

I am assuming that the CoPaPHak.hak replaces the existing Avlis.hak and the UniversalHak_2.hak replaces the UniversalHak.hak?

I must ask, is the Dracon race in? I've been interested in them since I first read about them, and the information about their land in the "holy warriors" thread makes them seem even more interesting.
