Avlis Community Interview : Silverfields2
Silverfields2 training her animal companion
ninja shovels his helicopter out of the snow and flys to Ohio and lands in silverfields2's back yard
silverfields2 hurries ninjterview into the house where its warmer.
Silverfields2: Want some tea?
ninja: Whew. Thanks. It is freezing out there. I'd love some tea!
silverfields2 hand ninjterview a hot cup of tea.
ninja: Mmmm...Earl Grey. Thanks. Let's get down to business. I already know the answer to this questions, but what brought you to Avlis?
Silverfields2: My husband was introduced to the game by some co-workers. I watched him play for about year and then he got me my very own copy.
ninja: I remember that well. The days when GreenElf, Silvervields1, Xarthna, and I would go to Panera Bread during lunch time just to kill beetles. Some may say it was an addiction. Your son also played for a while right?
Silverfields2: Yes, and for awhile people thought that the three silverfields were the same person managing to play at the same time. That was kinda funny.
ninja: I wouldn't have enough brain power or mouse dexterity to try to play 2 PCs at the same time. What character do you play, and what is your inspiration?
Silverfields2: I have played Malulani jael "MJ" MacMurray since the day I started. I did play a half-orc once or twice and recently have rolled up a character called Brody Eskine. I had zero roll playing experience when I started and my first inspiration was pretty much from the meaning of the name I gave my character from which I imagined a backstory. I floundered around a bit learning how to become the character and it sorta clicked one day while on a quest to restore Anca's soul. Since then my focus has been on reacting to the events and relationship in game, keeping the motivations and personality of my character in mind and striving to make her grow and mature as she gains experience.
ninja: You recently won runnerup in roleplayer of the month. What are your thoughts about winning the award?
Silverfields2: I like it! Being recognized that way made me feel really good about the way I play. It means to me that I've made the game as fun for other people that it is to me and that I haven't made too many people mad at me.
ninja: Well you deserve it! I know S1 & S3 don't play Avlis anymore (which is a crime!). What keeps you playing?
Silverfields2: One, my laptop still plays this old game. SF1's newer machine apparently won't run it and SF3 has moved on to other games (I don't really want to know what he plays now. hehe) The other thing that keeps me coming back is that it is a big outlet for the creative side of me. I get a kick out of being able to pretend that I'm in this other place and time and that I'm another person The story of the world is dynamic and ever changing. That and the chance that just maybe I'll be the "hero" and save the day. I guess its like gambling a little bit.
ninja: Tell SF1 to stop buying fancy linux boxes and just buy an old windows 98 machine. We need some Benedict Brightfeather on Avlis. What is your "defining moment" as a player that you are most proud of?
Silverfields2: Gosh that's a good question I'll need to mull that one over a moment.I think it had to be the day MJ got to be mad at Raney after FEAT was run off by the orcs in Ferrell. Raney and MJ had a rather dramatic moment when FEAT regrouped in the cave after that fight and MJ cried on Jalya's shoulder the next day. I was proud of that because I was able to play out the negative emotions without OoCly loosing my head and strikp and I were both cracking up about it the whole time. It also defined MJ as a full person who could actually have negative emotions making her a more rounded PC in my mind. It was brilliant.
ninja: That's great. Some PCs don't ever 'lose'. They die, and come back. Oh praise <insert diety name>. I'm back. Blah blah. What other games do you play?
Silverfields2: I play..... uh....pretty much nothing else. I'm too busy when I'm not playing on Avlis. Someday I'm going to finish Myst, maybe.
ninja: If it ain't broke, why fix it! Have you ever thought about being a DM?
Silverfields2: I actually have, but what stops me from going that route is the mechanics. I'm not great at the number crunching part of the game and the game controls. I've attacked people before just trying to drink a potion.
ninja: Once you get a set of hotkeys and phat loot drops, it's not that hard. Sure there are things you can do to pause the server, but the team is very supportive. Think about it. I'll move on. What is on your 5 song playlist right now?
Silverfields2: uh....SF1 has lots and lots of stuff on our shared drive. I tend to let them all just play. The last five songs were .... let see how to do this. Leymön Tendrel Pt.1 Choying Drolma & Steve Tibbetts Chö; Silver Bells Bing Crosby White Christmas; Requiem, op.48 / In Paradisum 3:50 Carlo Maria Giulini; Philharmonia Orchestra & Chorus Fauré: Panorama.Well, those were the last three. The most played though are Dead End Job The Police, Be Still my beating Heart Sting and The Soul Cages Sting. That probably gives you a good idea. Hehe.
ninja: Shared drives always have a lot of music, no matter where you are. What do you do outside of Avlis?
Silverfields2: I have a farm with five horses, three cats a dog and 30 acres of hay and a vegetable garden. I am learning Parelli Natural Horsemanship and hope someday to become a Parelli Professional and teach their brand of horsemanship. That and I'm a housewife and a mother and why MJ disappears when the days get longer and warmer.
ninja: Basically, you are a druid IRL. Where are you from?
Silverfields2: I'm an Air Force Brat. I've lived in MA, TX, CA, OH, Fl, NY (Long Island) and MO.
ninja: Yay Air Force. I spent 10 years in the Air Force & Air Force Reserves. Last question, what is something that people would find interesting about you, and has nothing to do with gaming?
Silverfields2: Heh, most people I think would be interested in the horses which pretty much defines me as a peson. Maybe they would be interested to know that I am a fan of theater when I get a chance to go once or twice a year. I think that liking live performances though, is an extension of role playing in a way.
ninja: Theater rocks! Well thank you so much for doing the interview Silverfields2. Do you have any parting words for the Avlis community?
Silverfields2: Actually I'd like to give encouragement to anyone who is just starting their Avlis journey. I think it is way more than a just a game. I think it can entertain in a way that can actually affect you as a person more than watching TV or a movie because you are an active participant in the story. Like all good stories, its going to have its ups and downs and sticking through the down times can be very rewarding if you roll with it.

What kinds of horses? The one in the photo looks very percheron-ish!

That dire horse in the picture is a home bred Mustang/Percheron gelding. He's somewhere near 16 hh and was foaled in 2000, so he's 11 years old this year. That picture was taken of us last August at a clinic. He isn't well broke. I need to do a lot of work on him yet. I named him Silverfields Algernon Warkwick/ a.k.a. Algae/ a.k.a. Pond Scum.

+1 to Silverfields2, a real life druid!!!!! I like both the player and MJ! I love MJ and the player's always been nothing but great to talk with.
I had no idea there even was a 1 and 3... although a 1 would make so much sense given the 2...

Re: Avlis Community Interview : Silverfields2
I totally agree with this being better than watching TV. *dodges things being thrown at her*
Brian and I don't watch TV. *gasp* I know! Why do you think we play this game so much?
Here we are using our brains rather than just vegging and we get to meet all these wonderful people from all over the world!
Great interview! Keep on being yourself! I am happy that I am not the only one that RP's when no one is watching... Brian can hear me typing and he always asks "who are you talking to" the answer is more often than not... myself.
