Good to be back! (And could use some help >_>)

Post by Bayne Tarrok » Tue Feb 21, 2006 5:18 pm

Greetings, fellow RPers!

Well, it's certainly been a while, but after what seems like (and might be) years of absences from the Neverwinter Community, I have retrieved this amazing game! I hope to see you all on the server, and that friends and foes alike will be made

HOWEVER!

I sort of have an issue -.-

This issue being that I have Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition!
Now one might wonder, why on Earth that would be an issue?!
Well, the issue is...
I have a CD Rom drive
Now, I have the game installed. This is because my family's computer has a DvD Rom drive. However, we can't have games on said computer. So, while everyone slept, I snagged the drive and installed the game.

That perhaps made matters worse, because I have this righterous game on my computer... and I can't play it.

Could anyone possibly direct me towards a file or application that might allow me to play without the DvD?

If it's a matter of whether my copy is legit, I assure you it is. I have all three CD keys, and all the hardware that comes with it. :D

Anyway, any assistance would be appreciated and undoubtedly returned in time. Please PM me if you know of any archives or files that would help me out.

Thank you for your time, and have a groovy day!

what you could do is snatch the cd-rom once again, and then update it. because with the updates, you don't need the cd to play.

Right, if you have a friend with the CDs, all you could do is install using those CDs, and using the CD-KEYs from your owned copy. As after 1.66 (I think) you no longer need the CD to play.

I said cd-rom, I meant dvd-rom. well, as said:

Snag the DVD-rom once more. Put the disc in, press update on the main menu, update. Give the DVD-rom back to your family in the cloak of night. and now you can play it without the disc :)

you have the game installed, just download the critical rebuild for 1.66 and run it, no need for the dvd anymore.

AFAIK you can run the updater and you should be updated to 1.66 (unless this has changed in the last 16 hours)

I've been looking on the bioware NWN site, and haven't found the Critical Rebuild Patch yet. I only see individual patches for both expansions and the Original NWN. Could someone link me to the patch?

Thank you :]

EDIT: I've run the updater from the launch menu, and it said I am already fully updated to 1.66.8074 (English)
Tried playing the game, and it still asked for the DvD.

Weird... as of 1.66 I don't have to have the play disc in the drive... very odd.

However you could use Ghetto solution #1 (which is what I had done prior to the release of the 1.66 patch)

Ghetto Solution #1

Download & Install Daemon Tools
Download & Install Alcohol 120%
Use Alcohol 120% to Create an Image of the DVD on you HD (This chews up quite a bit of space)
Use Deamon Tools to mount the image

SORTED!

oh, afterthought, try rebooting windows, sometimes windoze is a bit slow on the uptake...
