Ya, I thought to try Layonara as well.
I had to send an essay describing my character concept to the powers-that-be. *Imagines the Team doing that here, sifting through endless heaps of character concepts...* It was quickly approved.
Layonara is very similar to Avlis, in that it has been lovingly crafted and has a loyal cadre of players & team members. Big, but not as big as Avlis. It is clearly an RP world, perhaps between us & ALFA in that regard. There is a crafting system, but I never got into that.
Differences I noticed:
* Everybody's got a pack ox for carrying excess inventory. Kinda like a p-chest on four legs. Makes for a weird playing experience, seeing a bunch of PCs being trailed by loaded oxen. There are -- of course -- rules about griefing through killing somebody's ox.
* No pvp/cvc. No killing/robbing merchants or other non-hostile NPCs. Not that I'm even into that stuff, but without it, well... It seems a bit carebearish.
* The death system is very complicated, and eventually leads to perma-death, though measures can be taken to stave off this result.
Interesting experience, but just confirmed how happy I am with Avlis.
