irc + firewall = :(

Post by neurotap » Mon Jan 16, 2006 8:52 am

trying to check out the avlis irc channel and zone alarm keeps kicking me.

i think its because it is on port 6668 instead of the 6667 that works normally for me with other irc sites. i dont remember setting any rules for irc though it was a while ago.

can someone jar my noggin and perhaps help me fix my problem since its obviously blatently obvious for some strange reason. :?

Zonealarm..

Do you have IM security turned on?

If so you need to go to the IM security setting, click advanced, then make sure the "Block IRC" box is unchecked.

If the box is checked, uncheck it.

If the box is unchecked.. Can't help you.

Another option is to use the web interface at stratics. The URL is http://chat.stratics.com then click on "java client" near the middle of the far left margin.

Zone Alarm :x *scratches eyes out* That is like the Norton Anti-Virus of firewalls... Your best option: Remove zone-alarm, for the love of all that is good and holy.
I only use the vanilla-brand Windows Firewall and haven't had any suspicious internet traffic on my PC as far as I know. For virusscanner, I use McAfee.

You can force mIRC to route through a specific port.
<Sili> I've seen septic tanks with less shit in them than Fuzz.

<Ronnin> damm not even a kiss??
<Chasmania> Kiss Fuzz? I'd rather fellate a goat.

<Chasmania> there are many roads to Rome..they just picked a shit filled alley full of scabby hookers and bums.
