Computer Issue

Post by Defender » Thu Jul 14, 2005 1:00 am

I am having an issue. Every now and then I am getting a thing that says something about my tempclient folder has a corrupt file.

So, I went to my tempclient folder and there is a single bic file called "temp_char.bic It is 10KB in size. Is this supposed to be here, and if so, what can I do to get it back to uncorrupt condition.

Because right now I cant even delete the file or the folder.

Thanks,
Michael K

Well, I think I fixed it myself.

I renamed it "tempclientcorrupt" just so I know what it is and made me a new tempclient folder. The weird problem that I was having during initial log in to the server has been fixed. That must of been what it was.

Can someone tell me if this is acceptable? And perhaps tell me if there is still a way to delete this file.

Thanks,
Michael K

I'm on a Windows machine, and what I usually do when it's acting up and don't want to delete files I want it to delete, is to run cmd.exe and just manually delete the file.

I don't know if the file is supposed to be there though.

Depends on your OS. If XP, then chkdsk should handle it. You can schedule that to run on next boot via the disk tools tab when viewing the disk (turn all the scary options on).

If you're on 2000, Microsoft's recommendation is -- wait for it -- install XP. There's a bug in 2000's chkdsk that they refuse to fix. A saner alternative would be to save your data, reformat your drive and reinstall everything.

Guess why I know all this...
