Bonus epic feats

Post by Lucien » Thu Jan 06, 2005 5:29 pm

I am not clear on how these work. Let me use my PrC as an example.

Assuming I take 10 levels in non-PrC classes and the rest in my PrC, I will get epic feats at character levels 21, 24(2), 27, 28, 30, 32, 33, 36(2), 39, and 40.

Can I take either general or class feats--whichever I wish--at any of these levels, assuming I meet the feat requirement? I'm a bit confused, because in the manual, the feats Epic Skill Focus: Hide and Epic Skill Focus: Move Silently were listed as epic class feats for my class, but I thought that anyone could take an Epic Skill Focus as long as they had the requisite skill points invested (20).

In other words, are my bonus epic feats (one per 4 levels) restricted to class feats?

Thanks

Your normal feats (every three levels) are anything you qualify for, even epic feats from a class you don't have that you meet the requirements for. For instance, a mage taking armor skin.

Your class bonus feats are only good for feats listed under your class. Still, if you're hard core about your PrC, you probably will be taking only those feats anyway.

Thanks for clarifying that, Zyndro. And I agree about being hardcore--in fact, my main concern is that I may end up taking some of the few available epic class feats I have with my general epic feats and not have any left by the time I start getting the bonus epic ones.

Your example is too specific Lucien. Each PrC receives bonus feats at different levels. For example, Shifter and Weapon Master receive bonus feats every three levels.

Here's my breakdown on feats, in general.

Type of feat (# of feats): Level#

Standard feats (7 total): at character levels 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18
Epic feats (7 total): at character levels 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39

Optional bonus feat if race is human (1 total): at character level 1

Optional bonus feats if class is fighter (1 to 11 total): at Fighter level 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20

Optional bonus feats if class is wizard (1 to 4 total): at Wizard level 5, 10, 15, 20

Optional bonus feats is class is rogue (depends): at Rogue level 10, 13, 16, 19, (not sure about 22, 25, 28, etc.). Note that these are "special" feats, not available in the normal feat selection.

Bonus class epic feats:
Fighter - every 2 class levels (22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40 )
Bard, Cleric, Paladin, Ranger, Sorceror, Wizard - every 3 class levels (23, 26, 29, 32, 35, 38 )
Barbarian, Druid, Rogue - every 4 class levels (24, 28, 32, 36, 40 )
Monk - every 5 class levels (25, 30, 35, 40 )
Blackguard, Palemaster, Shadowdancer, Shifter, Weapon Master - every 3 class levels (13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28 )
Arcane Archer, Assassin, Dwarven Defender - every 4 class levels (14, 18, 22, 26, 30 )

For most of the PrC's, I think there is almost ALWAYS something you can take. For example, Shifters get Greater Wisdom as an epic bonus feat and this can be taken up to 10 times. Since the most bonus feats any shifter can get is 6 (30 levels of shifter, bonus feat every three levels after 10th), the Epic Shifter can always take Greater Wisdom if they have taken everything else. Similarly, epic fighters have Epic Toughness available to them as a bonus class feat which can be taken 10 times, Epic Rogues can take Improved Sneak Attack, Epic Champions of Torm can take Greater Charsima as a bonus feat iirc, and I'm sure there is something similar for your PrC. It might not always fit into the character concept as well as you'd like, but I think there will always be something there.

You're right, of course, Mal. I was looking at the Epic Skill Foci that are epic class feats and realized I'd have them by the time I got my first epic bonus feat. But there are good ones left to be had, yes.

so this means you will get your normal epic feat at 21 AND a BONUS feat at say 23rd?(class allowing))

Yes, that is correct (assuming the appropriate class level at 23rd character level). However, the bonus feats must be chosen from a class-specific subset of feats (each class has a different list of available bonus feats).
