Meh, why won't gamespy or direct connect work?
I am at home at my folks and as I do not have my real comp here I just went through the rigmarole of getting my laptop to v1.64.
Now though gamespy isn't working and I seem to be unable to direct connect to any of the servers.
Can anyone confirm for me what I should be putting in the address for the direct connect, or some ideas on why I can't connect to Gamespy, or any other useful advice?

Are you on a dynamic IP dial-up? If so then I really wouldn't bother with a firewall anyway, it's quite pointless. People are too paranoid lately, heh.Fifty wrote:Okay, well after fiddling with most of my firewall settings I just turned the bloody thing off, and I can direct connect now (still no gamespy), but what do I need to adjust to be able to keep it on? I do not like having no firewall, even on low speed dialup.
The Firewall SHOULD ask you if you wish to allow the NWN traffic to go through, but it obviously isn't...
What firewall is it?

Can't breathe, make it stop.
Seriously, firewalls on dynamic dialup connections are not pointless and recommending otherwise is offering dangerous advice. All it takes is one virus...

wouldn't this be better served with an anti-virus scanner ?PlasmaJohn wrote:All it takes is one virus...
but anyway ...... If you use Symantec, you should be able to view a list of the programs that have been given access (I think it's under Firewall then Configuration).
In there there should be a NWN program (might show as Neverwinter Nights, or NWMAIN.EXE (there might be several if you've still got the same firewall software through several NWN updates)). I had some problems with an earlier version where I had to change the program settings to automatic or permit all (whatever it wasn't currently on) in order to get it to work. Alternatively, you could try removing it completely, and then as Env said, it should ask when you next try and connect.
