Parry!
Ok, I have been trying to do my best research into parry since I intend to make arogue parry build when I come to Avlis. Regardless of how busted it is here for RP reasons the parry build will still happen but I am just curious to the technicality of it and why people deem it broken?
Along with the usual S focus parry and the improved parrys I also intend to take epic dodge. I read somewhere that parry only blocks 3 attacks per round.
in a 1-1 fight, even in epic levels a non dual wielding fighter will get 4 attacks
E dodge on attack one
leaving the other 3 to be parried.
nonetheless give me everything ya got on parry, whether it is game mechanics, in-game or opinions or just your general synopsis
thanks!

Take expertise, and deal with the little animation of you blocking, since it's so much more effective.

<Sili> I've seen septic tanks with less shit in them than Fuzz.
<Ronnin> damm not even a kiss??
<Chasmania> Kiss Fuzz? I'd rather fellate a goat.
<Chasmania> there are many roads to Rome..they just picked a shit filled alley full of scabby hookers and bums.
The shape of things to come...

ok thanks for the links helped alot. been alot of the same things i have been reading but have clarified some. Well then i guess i will just ask a small avlis question and elaborate more on my intended build
is it possible by epic levels to get an item that adds concealment/displacement, and yes i know true seeing cancels this
- if i take max parry and feats for parry.
- max tumble for the ac bonus (correct?)
- take epic dodge asap
- get an item that grants concealment
any single round would look like this, even assuming they have 6 attacks per round
attack 1 misses due to dodge
attack 2 possibly hits ac, possibly hits through concealment and then parried
attack 3 same as 2
attack 4 same as 2 unless 2 hits, in that case it still has to go through ac and displacement
attack 5 same as 3
attack 6 same as 4
of course their are other alternatives such as a landed riposte or such. like i said i want the parry skill maxed for rp reasons and these are just other things i have seen to help make it a decent build
i dont like bein told something i like sucks so i like to remedy it
lemme know what you guys think. ill would test it in mod if i had nwn working lol

Actually, it doesn't. The only concealment that see invisibility and true seeing negate is the concealment provided by a regular invisibility spell. Even the unnerfed version of true seeing (or true seeing as a property in an item or in the hide of a creature) will be useless against improved invisibility.Aden_Coraxe wrote:is it possible by epic levels to get an item that adds concealment/displacement, and yes i know true seeing cancels this

I would not plan for anything over lvl 20. It just takes so long to lvl that planing epic is a waste.
I would plan for how things are going to look at 5, 10, 15 and 20. On average... You are going to be spending the next YEAR just getting that far. Results will vary based on play time.
What limited I know about parry? You can only parry as many attacks as you have, so dual wield. If you can get parry 10 above the bab of an enemy your lvl you have something relatively viable. 10 is what you need to repoiste.
You can get parry the following ways fairly easily (relative to lvl):
+3 item
+3 skill over lvl
+3 skill focus
+4 improved parry
+dex bonus
So, at lvl 1,5,10,15,20 what babs and # attacks are you going to be facing?
1 At first it will be you vs rats and such with +0-3 bab.
With imp parry and 18 dex: 4+4+4= 12. You would be ok.
5 ogres, bugbear heros, variety of bandits, and mercs upward of ~12bab?
imp parry, 19 dex, skill focus, +3 item: 8+4+4+3+3= 22. Would be ok.
10 half-orc bandits, flail mercs ~20bab
imp parry, 20 dex, skill focus, +3 item, +1-2 cats potion: 13+4+5+3+3+2= 30. Would be ok.
I have heard... do not know for sure
-both in favor and against parry being broken against flurrys (the additional attacks over the 3rd per round).
-parry is only viable against one opponent you are looking at.
I would say you cannot really go too wrong with it. Worse comes to worse you waste 2 feats and 1 skill out of 8 rogues get. No big deal. There is potential for getting yourself some decent parry items. There is potential for one on one fights, or at least only one enemy that is really danger which you can hold off while the group takes the rest.

That is my opinion, not nessasarily anyone else's opinon, might just be, but that would be a coincodence, and damnit, sometimes the crap I write is not even my opinion either.

Parry works against anyone that is attacking you. As for the flurry stuff I have no idea I was using with a character with at most 2 attacks a round and it worked fine so long as I had someone else (even my pixie) to do the damage. Otherwise I found that I would do better to just fight. It is a team work skill that is for sure. But the one time I got caught and outnumbered badly it saved my characters butt.
I stopped using it in the official campaign with my Bard/Wizard because the AI is, well, not so bright and it was far better to be doing things like shooting arrows then parrying and hoping Linu would catch the hint. But with a human partner then you should do fine.
